Mahindra Power train warranty

OK, here's the PDF of the Mahindra 7-year powertrain warranty: http://mahindrausa.com/sites/default/files/2017%20Warranty%20policy%20-%20TractorsOnly_0.pdf
It's as clear as mud in some parts, but it looks as if the seal should be covered. Not that replacing that seal would be a big deal; given my dealer's pick up / drop off charge, and the fact that I don't have a trailer that will haul my tractor, I'd just replace it on my tractor. (Or drive 2.5 miles on some busy roads in the tractor!)

yup... back the tractor up a steep incline pull a few parts off pop the old one out pop the new one in... a bushing or socket the size of the seal will help knock it in even... bam... 20 minutes top

If it was the rear PTO that's probably what I'd do. It's pretty straight forward. This is the mid PTO which hangs down below the transmission. Access kind of stinks. So I assume I need to drain the fluid. The seal is like the rear PTO so that seems like a pretty typical replacement. From the diagram, it looks like there's also an O ring that seals the ID of the bushing to the shaft. Probably need to pull the c clip and bushing out to get to the o ring if that's what it's for. Just makes things a little more complicated the further you tear into things.

Well, you could try the "vacuum cleaner on the transmission oil filler" trick to keep leakage down. If the seal is fully visible, sometimes you can poke a hole in it with a sharp punch and screw in a sheet metal screw to get purchase upon. Then remove the bushing and the o-ring, and replace the parts (using the big socket on the seal, unless you have a driver kit.)

I think a PTO shaft seal is going to be considered an "external seal", excluded from the powertrain warranty. Any seal exposed to the environment is usually not covered in any warranty on any equipment I've ever owned.

The gasket would be inside of the housing so I would think it is covered.

A case gasket, yes. A shaft seal, no.

The wording is kind of "hinky". I think that there's a good case for coverage. However, as noted earlier, transporting a tractor to replace five bucks worth of seal isn't worth the trouble.

Have a good dealer. On warranty work only pay 50% of transport costs. Seal and oring costs about 30 bucks my costs on transport would be about 32 bucks. Still waiting to hear from Mahindra on their decision and I agree the language is not clear. If I have to do it myself oh well I'll chalk it up to another issue with Mahindras customer service. Im getting near my 200 hr mark to change hyd fluid so I'll do it when I drain the oil
