A question for those who open carry

Would like to have seen him walk around first though.

One does NOT need a gun to be armed.

The biggest and best tool for self defense is your brain. Use it. That said, being out of shape and not knowing how to physically defend yourself isn't helping your odds.

ANYONE can be put in a no win situation, even if armed with a gun.

Who are you talking to? Most ridiculous response I have ever read hands down..

I have no idea why you find Sig's comment, ridiculous? A gun is a tool, as is your brain. Well at least it can be. I know which one I would choose if I only had a choice of one.

I carry often, open or concealed as the situation warrants. But more importantly, even when I can't or don't carry, I go prepaired, mentally, emotionally, and aware of my surroundings. The use of one's brain at all times will lead you to the use of the proper tool, be it speaking calmly to defuse a volatile situation, simply using your feet to leave the situation, or coming to the conclusion that use of a tool you have avaliable is warranted. One MUST TAKE RESPONSIBILITY FOR THIER ACTIONS! No one wants to hurt innocent bystanders (or so I thought, until recently), I sure don't. I hope I never need to defend myself or my family in a life-or-death situation, but should I need to, I will.

So right on about being aware. I carry concealed frequently. The reason is simple, I know the chances are remote, but I don't want anyone in my family to be a victim EVER if I can prevent it, and likely I will be the only one able to prevent the harm most of the time - 911 is nice but not useful when immediate action is necessary. Carrying makes me feel a bit less like a potential victim. But personally, I am mostly not sufficiently aware of surroundings at all times. And that is likely more important than carrying. I work on it, but I feel I never quite have the "edge" that it requires to be constantly alert. I am getting better at it and it does take practice. . . until it becomes a habit.

No one really knows how they would react in a life threatening situation. You can hope you would make the right decisions and know when to act or not act, but until you are faced with it I don't think any one can totally predict what they would do - I can't. Mentally rehearsing, and practicing shooting in different situations, and particularly shooting while moving, can be helpful training - sort of rehearsals for what are most likely to be the circumstances you would face.

And finally, it is prudent to stay out of things that are not life threatening, i.e., not to intervene just because you are armed and can impact what is happening. As someone once said, "leave crazy alone."

I was talking directly to YOU.

You asked if what if someone was threatening you and if you weren't armed with a gun, what can you do about it.

The best tool you have for self defense is your brain, period. If you can't grasp that concept and feel the only way you can defend yourself is with a firearm, you've put yourself in a very sad position.

I'm w/ carrying a firearm, open or concealed, like I am about public nudity. Everyone needs some training, some more than others.

Anyone with a brain knows to get away from a problem if you can, I didn't say anything about using a gun to solve all problems.. I carry a gun. it's my right to do so, some people own pit bulls because it's there right to do so, if you don't like to carry guns that's up to you but telling people they have no brain if they do is foolish..

 Preparation first... gun last.

Obviously you have never been in a situation going south... Sig knows exactly what he is talking about.

He isn't only guy around here with some first hand knowledge of many things.

If you had any idea of some of the situations I have got out of without using a weapon in the last 55 years working in and around high violence area's you might think twice about questioning me.

You guys have it all figured out so I'll leave it at that.
