A question for those who open carry

/ A question for those who open carry #71
IMO some of you folks need to get real...America does not need the average citizen out running errands and going to the grocery store, the auto parts store, etc., etc...to be carrying...period...
...I love guns and think everybody should have one ( or several) but the last thing I want to be close to is some amateur idiot that happens to have a ccp trying to save the day when there is a a lot of citizens about... so why do you feel the need to carry?....I am a gun lover and shooting enthusiast...member of the IRA for 48 years....just don't get the need...

It really depends on the area in which someone lives and or works, some places are safer than others. I try not to judge others who carry all the time because I don't wear there shoes. I don't mind people open carrying at all, anything can happen at any time. Being prepared isn't a bad thing.

If some nut job drug addict/dealer happened to threaten your life while you were in a parking lot and you were unarmed, what could you do about it?

If someone feels the need to carry all of the time there is a reason for it and it's not because they are paranoid. they probably just want to live another a day if a problem presents itself.

One does NOT need a gun to be armed.

The biggest and best tool for self defense is your brain. Use it. That said, being out of shape and not knowing how to physically defend yourself isn't helping your odds.

ANYONE can be put in a no win situation, even if armed with a gun.

The hallmark statements of a gun banner.

I support the 2nd amendment BUT......

Most who make the commitment to carry every day understand we aren't afforded the same protections as the police and aren't going to be out to "save the day". We (the taxpayers) pay for insurance for the police should they cause collateral damages or injuries when attempting to "save the day". Most understand that the choice to take a shot in public is going to change their life forever and will only take that shot if absolutely necessary and absolutely sure it will find the mark.

Ignorance of law is not a defense in a court of law. Most people understand this. Most people also understand guns are a life and death subject. The ones that carry everyday are generally very deliberate about understanding and keeping up with the laws that pertain to them in their travels. They are not going to be out breaking the law. Most have spent large sums of money on their personal defense carry-rig. One mistake could cost them everything, and most understand this.

It is unfortunate that not everyone understands and problems do occur, but those need thinned out on a case by case basis just like any other criminal act.

Criminals with a free reign to do as they want are a bigger problem than the occasional good, hard working gun owner taking a bad shot. Everyone who can legally carry should always carry anyplace they legally have a right. They should also understand it is a life and death decision that if ever used, right or wrong, justified or not, will change their life forever.

As I stated today in another thread, a gun is the one tool you cannot postpone things to go retrieve. Typically when that tool is needed, it is needed immediately.

I agree there shouldn't be a need, and in most cases there isn't any need. Fact is, lots of good people have bad things happen that could be, and in some cases, are stopped because someone carries a gun. Just because there shouldn't be a need, and in most cases there isn't a need, doesn't mean it is a bad idea.

I carry often, open or concealed as the situation warrants. But more importantly, even when I can't or don't carry, I go prepaired, mentally, emotionally, and aware of my surroundings. The use of one's brain at all times will lead you to the use of the proper tool, be it speaking calmly to defuse a volatile situation, simply using your feet to leave the situation, or coming to the conclusion that use of a tool you have avaliable is warranted. One MUST TAKE RESPONSIBILITY FOR THIER ACTIONS! No one wants to hurt innocent bystanders (or so I thought, until recently), I sure don't. I hope I never need to defend myself or my family in a life-or-death situation, but should I need to, I will.
