Who rides motorcycles?

I'm flying out to Seattle right after Labor Day to start a solo cross country trip on my new to me 2014 Yamaha Super Tenere. Calling it my Bucket List Tour. Planning to ride via WA, ID, MT, WY, CO, KS, MO, AR, TN, AL, SC, NC, VA, PA, upstate NY then back to MA. Should take about a month. Trying to stay off interstates as much as possible. Initially planned to camp but decided the extra couple of hours to find a campsite, set up and break camp each day was going to cut into daytime driving hours so will stay in motels instead. Looking forward to seeing Yellowstone, Grand Teton, Independence Pass, Ozarks, Memphis and all 500 miles of the Blue Ridge Parkway.

IslandTractor - man, are you fortunate. I have the ideal situation to do what you are doing. My situation is, I can only ride about 300 miles max per day and then most likely I will have to rest the following day.

I'm retired with a brand, spanking new 2017 BMW R1200GSA - that I ride almost every other day. I've tried riding every day - problem is - every days ride gets shorter & shorter.

I guess I better not complain too much. At least, I can still ride.

Yep. It's a 2013. Rode it down to the bay area to see Tom Petty last week. My favorite time to ride is in the fall, after a few good rains wash all the gunk off the roads.

Sounds like a fun trip. I've crossed the USA a few times on HD's and BMW's. I like to camp, time permitting, and if not too warm. 90 degrees is about my limit these days. I've a few 900 mile days on a couple of my beemers, never on a Harley. These days I like 500-600, start early, and be sitting in a to tub by 3-4 in the afternoon.

I will only ride if I can start early. I would rather play with the early morning deer than try to endure the afternoon heat.

We just did a 3500 mile ride last month. MT has great roads but the best scenery is the west side of the state.. a whole lot of nothing going across it....which is good and bad... little to no traffic but it is long and got boring after hours and hours.

Awesome. Color me envious, IT. I've long wanted to do US-50 from coast to coast. It happens to roll right through my town, about 4 miles from the house. Two-lane highways are the only way to go when it's about the journey and not the destination. You get to go through America instead of around or past all of it.

Keep us updated. Be safe, and enjoy.
