Who makes best heat pumps (HVAC)

you took me literally, sorry. I meant the whole system. You are going to pay a lot more for a Trane or a Lennox than a Goodman.
If reliability is the same, and performance only marginally different, what does the extra money get you? Says the guy who spent more money on a Trane thinking that offered value. Now maybe I learn it doesn't?

As a Trane dealer,I could buy a Trane for the same money that I could buy a Goodman .
I could get more for the Trane....Well because,,,, It was a Trane !

Best I remember, Goodaman was the first to offer a 10 yr warranty while Trane offered a 5. People still wanted Trane. Trane had a very good advertising campaign !

Now that sure is interesting, never would have thought that. I thought Goodman was the MTD of heat pumps...trying to hit
a price point lower than the big guys. Maybe without paying for all that advertising they can.........

should we care what country these things are made in? Not a loaded question, I buy US all the time and religiously but does quality
vary?

ok, I have to be careful with my words. I know Goodman is big, so is MTD... I meant the Tranes, Lennoxes of this world where the project winds up costing more
because of the implied quality in the equipment. So you are saying not to worry about the brand, worry about the installer.
Man, the marketing depts of those big companies won't like that one little bit. They spend millions of dollars each year to tell us why their product
is simply the best. (I have a marketing background and love this stuff)

Is there really no Mercedes of this HVAC business? No one company that uses simply superior pumps, compressors, even tubing?
Usually in a field someone tries to occupy that niche, top of the heap.

Yes to mini splits, almost bought an LG for my woodshop. Or a Haier. I've always leaned towards Panasonic, having sold their products retail, and
have seen the very low return/repair rate. Matsu****a is a very high quality company.
Amazing what you can get on Amazon sent to you as DIY.
Now there's some job security for professional HVAC folks to go fix all that homeowner installed stuff...

Yeah, there's never enough $$ to pay to have it done correctly the 1st time. But, there's always enough $$ to pay someone to come and attempt correct what you have screwed up ! LOL

You saying you can get quality out of china. But, there is a price to pay for that quality.
China is a producer of many quality VRF units

I sold out some time back. I'm now out of the business.
My brother and his son still work in the industry. My brother is director of training/ support at Johnson controls. His son ( my nephew ) over tech support at Nordine. VRF division Edgetek | Checking the Outdoor Board on a Mini-Split

There are many companies that will sell to anyone. You can buy off the net ,etc,. Then there are those that are selective about who installs their equipment.
Trane, carrier, Lennox, etc, (as far as I know) don't sell to just anyone, or sell on the net. This is why these brands seem to get better reviews. They are usually installed by someone that has jumped through the hoops to become a dealer for these brands.

If you are Jo Blow. You aren't going to be able to walk in and purchase a trane, lennox, etc, product , go out and install it.

Goodman, Rheem, etc, will sell to anyone, and are not selective to whom they sell their equipment to.
They allow their equipment to be sold on the net and homeowner and his neighbor install the equipment. This isn't gonna happen with the above mentioned brands. This is why Trane ,carrier, etc, usually have the better reviews as having the least troubles
