Pacific Northwest - Forrest Fires

I must have got the remains of that, rain started then stopped. Left about a inch between drops on patio. Supposed to get a little more tomorrow 0.06", that's not likely to even settle the dust.

Hey, given this summer I'll take it. Weather Underground says 90% chance tomorrow. Guess I'll mow the lawn tonight.

Its crystal clear here this AM. At 2:45 am - not a sign of smoke, ash or corruption. I know this is due to a shift in the winds because a quick check on InciWeb shows all the fires are still burning. I'll take it, even if only for a brief time. Allows me to open the house, turn on the fans, cool things down and get some fresh air in the house. Seems like this has been ongoing for a month but really its only been a little over a week.

Its 7:30, fans still running wide open, I can see across my lake and absolutely no smoke anywhere.

I just came back Friday from a fishing trip to Glacier Nat. Park and the smoke was solid from Coeur d'Alene to Glacier. I made a complete circle going there via I 90 and returning via HWY 2, 600 plus miles. The smoke was so bad while fishing my eyes were watering. The good news, it was a great guided trip and LOTS of fish!!

Good on the fish - not much a guy can do about the smoke. Been there a couple time - really beautiful country.

...and returning via HWY 2, ...
You drove right past where I grew up, halfway between Moyie Springs and the Montana line.

This morning I pulled out on the motorcycle at 6:30. All the way to the top of Steptoe Butte - no smoke. Way off in the distance, in all direction, smoke is visible.

Nice ride over back counry roads all the way...almost. How was the road up? Last year it was so bad they had to do some emergency repair. Steptoe Butte looms up over the hills about 7 miles from my back yard. Any out of area visitors get a guided tour up there by me.

I went up last fall in my Jeep. Thank goodness. It was like driving thru a military bomb practice area. Well, they patched the bomb craters early this year and its drivable now. It took so much patching - they would have been worlds ahead if they had just repaved it completely.

Anyhow, I'm so pleased about the smoke, being able to ride my new bike and it does look like some of the forrest fires are finally coming under control.
