Gas shortages

Taxes here are per gallon, not per price. Today it's 219.9 here for regular 10% ethanol. $269.9 for premium ethanol free.

So.... like turnkey said, anything happen, anywhere, and our fuel prices go up. We are assuming that the fuel here in Ea WA comes from refineries in and around Ferndale, WA. So when the hurricanes hit the east coast our fuel costs skyrocket. Makes a lot of sense doesn't it.

Because if the prices are higher in one area, the refinery may make more money shipping their fuel to where the price is higher. As such, your fuel price goes up even though your fuel supply chain was not directly affected by the storm.

Not a rocket surgeon, but that seems pretty obvious.

Also, forgot to mention that fuel may travel a LOOOOONG way in a pipeline, the Colonial Pipeline goes from Houston to Atlanta, then on to New Jersey, so when that went offline in Harvey (or at least the Houston end went offline), that affected gas supplies everywhere between there and NJ. Here is a map of the route it takes:

For sure! Was running ahead of schedule this morning so stopped for gas and filled up at $2.219. Gas Buddy sent a prices rising alert mid day so I was feeling a little smug. Expecting to see prices up 10~20 cents per gallon on the way home I was somewhat shocked to see $2.599!

Was in Corpus Christi yesterday and filled up for $2.39 regular. I was there for over a week right after the Hurricane and never had a problem getting gasoline at normal prices anywhere I went. I was doing a lot of driving for those 10 days.
