How long to wait before towing with a new truck?

How many miles to wait before you tow a trailer with a new truck? The manufacturers used to say 500 miles but I've heard everything from nothing to more. We might get a new Toyota Tundra V8 and just trying to guestimate things. Load would be 7000 lbs.

Read the operator痴 manual. If it was important the topic would be covered . There are too many people with excess time on their hands that get worked up about engine breakin, oil change intervals and brand of oil.

I think most of the lawn care services probably drop the trailer on the ball the day after they take delivery of a new truck and pretty much leave it there...unless they plow in the winter.

I waited for 500 on my new V6 4Runner last summer towing 4300# but no way I’m only changing the motor oil and filter at 10k, 5k was soon enough. Never really thought about the rearend lube.

Fleet vehicles are always babied like when they slap a bed full of tools on, hitch up and roll out when they they have 20 miles on the odometer.

If your vehicle is new or equipped with any new power train components
(such as an engine, transmission, differential or wheel bearing), Toyota recommends
that you do not tow a trailer until the vehicle has been driven for
over 500 miles (800 km).
After the vehicle has been driven for over 500 miles (800 km), you can start
towing. However, for the next 500 miles (800 km), drive the vehicle at a speed
of less than 50 mph (80 km/h) when towing a trailer, and avoid full throttle
acceleration

Wheel bearings? Really?

If it was really important to not load the drivetrain, why haven't they included "do not drive into a good stiff headwind"? That loads the drivetrain. They also make no mention of what size/weight trailer to not tow. A small little utility trailer would load the drivetrain no more than driving into the above mentioned headwind but they give no indication of a size/weight cutoff point. They also make no mention of not loading the truck to it's maximum GVWR which logically should also be restricted.

Actually they do mention it as any owners manual would. I just didn't post the whole towing section from the OM. Just the 500 mile BS

I don't think my 900 pound boat/trailer would count. It's like nothing behind my V8 F150.

Toyota says to change the Tundra oil after the first 2,500 miles and then every 5,000 miles after that.

Ok, thanks for that information. I have no owners manual for my 1994 truck which was bought second hand and no one knew where it went.
