Buying Advice Kubota 5740 potential purchase

My 5240 was set up the same way. I only used the clutch for starting or if the brushhog hit something unintended. You get used to brakes and hydro pedals on the same side. On the large frame grand Ls the rear end is light and the loader is very strong. It is easy to lift the rear off the ground with a full bucket. Get the rear tires loaded AND get weight on the three point. I had R4s and in wet snow they are very slippery on hills even with about 400 pounds per tire of Rimguard. Chains made a huge difference on my tractor for plowing snow with R4s. I had the Kubota 3rd function and it worked well, expensive though. Check the bottom of the clutch housing and make sure there is no oil leaking from the drain. This is a common nuisance problem. Good luck!

O.P.didn't state if the snow plow attaches to the SS on the FEL or has the sub-frame type(that alone is worth a couple grand).

Sorry, it's on its own frame that mounts to the tractor frame.

Sorry? Its a good thing other than the confusion for not being more specific from the start. That's a more expensive piece that generally outperforms other options. Ya, you have to remove the loader. But the plow ends up a lot closer to the frame decreasing the leverage the plow has. It's stronger (no chance of wracking loader arms) & you end up with much better steering.

I'm Canadian, every sentence starts with "sorry" ;)

I had a L5740 that I traded on my L6060. I much prefer the 6060 but I understand the money part too. Pedal for starting, done away with on 6060, but I rarely used turning brakes on my 5740 as the front turns so sharp. I'm in Northern MN - their are my winter plow tractors so stay inside, a good thing for the 5740 because it is a hard, smokey starter below 40 (5 to you). My 6060 started quickly at 24 (-5 to you) with no glow plugs Wednesday morning. I ran hoses for third function on my 5740 but gladly paid for the third function on the 6060. To me the brakes on the left are useless because I have driven at least 12 tractors and 2 combines in the past 2 years all having right brakes. Left brakes on the 6060 get used as a parking brake. I got the air seat on my 6060 (was not available on the 5740) but I preferred the suspension seat on the 5740. Unlike my larger tractors, the air seat on the 6060 seems little better. I wish I had chains on the fronts of my 5740 for winter work - blade, front or rear - try to take over steering.
