My 5240 was set up the same way. I only used the clutch for starting or if the brushhog hit something unintended. You get used to brakes and hydro pedals on the same side. On the large frame grand Ls the rear end is light and the loader is very strong. It is easy to lift the rear off the ground with a full bucket. Get the rear tires loaded AND get weight on the three point. I had R4s and in wet snow they are very slippery on hills even with about 400 pounds per tire of Rimguard. Chains made a huge difference on my tractor for plowing snow with R4s. I had the Kubota 3rd function and it worked well, expensive though. Check the bottom of the clutch housing and make sure there is no oil leaking from the drain. This is a common nuisance problem. Good luck!
