PTO chipper WoodMaxx new MX-9900

I chip everything from Pine to Oak. As for size, any hardwood larger than 4 inches is firewood so that doesn't get chipped, but pine and poplar I've gone as large as 7 inches, I just slow the feed rate down and the 9900 just chews it up. Over the last 2 years, I've chipped at least 30 ton and I'm on the secound side of my secound set of blades. I just had my 1st set sharpened and honed on both edges and they are ready to go in again.
We have a large Back to Eden Organic Garden that is all wood chips so we use a lot of chip. Plus I've helped a few friends get started with gardens.

I got just under 20 hours on the first side of the blades on my WM-8H. It was making stringy chips which was my sign to turn the blades around. I probably could have done it a few hours earlier. I chipped a lot of hard dry brush, maybe 1/3 of the total to that point. The rest being fresh cut brush, fir and madrone. I used a knife hone on the blades about every 5 hours.

What do y'all do for sharpening blades?

I have the 8800 and I've been happy with it. I did burn up a belt on the hydraulic pump the first time I used it but the company was very responsive with diagnosing the problem and getting out replacement parts. It has been flawless since then. I probably have less then 10 hours on it at this point but will start using it more as we get into fall. I haven't had any issues hauling it around. I can get it up plenty high to clear things in the woods.

I have a friend that does blade sharpening and I just handed him a set on the way to my seat one Sunday morning in church.... He had them back to me a couple weeks later.

For my WM-8H
I take my blades to a professional shop in a nearby town. The two blades, both sides makes four surfaces to do. They charge 32 dollars and it takes a week. It is the reason when I bought my unit I went for the "spares kit". Nice to have replacement stuff so you don't have to wait while your only set is being worked on.

What size woodmax do you have? because the 9900 has 4 blades and a bed blade, so that is 10 edges to sharpen.

You will not be sorry, the MX 9900 is a beast of a machine and the customer service is great.

this is what it will look like when it arrives.

Make that a plus one for me...

Been on the fence for a longtime but my brother is willing so we have one on the way...

Had been holding out for Bandit 65 small commercial unit and came close... made a 2 hour drive with $5500 cash in hand and arrived just as it was being hitched to the back of the new owner's truck... a retired guy was moving and it looked like new... Never have found anything close since then and new they can be 3 to 4 times that.

one last thing, does it seem to make a differance only having one infeed roller system

The Woodmax arrived properly crated without damage.

Shortened the PTO and went to work... I was not there but got a call saying the L3800 seat presence wouldn't let the PTO be engaged unless the operator was in the seat...

Not sure what the work around is other than to by-pass the switch but the tractor is used by employees at times...

Put a bag of sand in the seat :)

I put a nylon zip tie around the safety mechanism that is under the seat. Mine was a nylon spring loaded lever. Easy to fix like this. Easy to remove, too.

Try flipping the seat up, then turning on the PTO. That let's the PTO work without someone in the seat on our L3830.

I did ask if the seat was flipped and it wasn't

This is going to sound sad but 3 hands were on the payroll and they took turns sitting in the seat so the other two could work.

I've found there is no substitute for being there...

I did that on my L3200 (same machine as the L3800) so I could stand & see the ends of my pallet forks. Trivial to undo if needed, occasionally would pop off on its own.

I think flipping the seat up would let it run stationary with the PTO engaged, but I never had reason to test that.

I will get feedback soon.

So far the chipper itself has worked well... no complaints and having a Christmas Tree farm there will always be smaller stuff to chip.
