I am finally retiring. I am a 23 year Air Force vet and have spent the last 20 years as a computer systems analyst sitting on my duff. I live in Florida with my best friend and spouse of 46 years. Our two boys are grown and on opposite sides of the country. :D Now it is just us and our daughter that has golden hair, walks on all fours, and has difficulty pronouncing words..
We are in the process of buying land in Eastern Tennessee. It is a good mix pasture and woods, currently the pasture is being hayed by someone else. Our plans besides building the house, barn, shed, etc. is to run grass-fed cattle and to start an organic farm mostly just for ourselves (at least initially).
As an aside, I have not been on a tractor since I worked on a farm in my late teen years and boy have they changed, I can't believe all the options. Regardless, I am chomping at the bit to get there and start living again.
Thanks for listening, I will post my "which tractor" question on the appropriate forum, since this is a meet and greet.

:welcome: from Utah.

I look forward to retiring myself, maybe next year.

Keep us posted on everything. There are many who will be very envious of your move and coming lifestyle.

After 3 years in the navy and 34 year working for the federal government I retired about 7 1/2 years ago. Grew up in a dairy farm in Minnesota and alway had some type of small place to raise a little beef and garden and chickens. Retirement is by far the best job I have ever had and work from sun up to past sun down most days. Good luck on retirement and get ready to go to work. Lol

To the TBN forum Bill. Glad you joined us here.

Congrats on your retirement and good hunting on the new tractor and farm.

Like KY Farmer states, get ready to really work. It seems that you never get caught up as there is always something that needs to be done "right now" but you will love it.

Are you originally from TN? Where at in TN is the new farm?

Thanks for your service. When and where did you serve?

Thank you all for the warm welcome. I always enjoyed working on the farms when I was young. Farming is the hardest work there is IMHO but it generates the best sleep at night.

I am originally from Michigan but lived all over the East as my step dad was a trucker. Never lived in Tennessee before but after a lot of searching and visiting it is where I want to spend eternity. :)

Our farm is close to Treadway, Hancock county about 5 miles South of Sneedville.

That is a great area. I am from Clarksville but always wanted to live in Cades Cove after visiting there as a kid but the government wouldn't let me so I am down here where the wife is from.
