Stopped at my local welding shop and pieced together my little starter kit from Strate Welding. I talked with Mark at Everlast a bit yesterday and he recommended 6011 & 7014 for what I'm doing and being a beginner. Real nice guy and come to find out he only lives 30 minutes from me & even offered to spend an evening with me to teach the basics. Pretty cool of him!
That's great. I enjoyed dealing with Mark. He's very helpful.

Ohhhh you must take Mark up on his offer. Actually I would take anyone offering you "stick time" up on the offer. We had welding and machine shop in high school and I didn't want to hang with that group. Deeply saddened by that decision now.

 That looks like a very nice unit. It should work out well for you. Make sure to keep us posted on what you are doing with it.

Yes sir, I'll keep it on this thread to keep from cluttering up the welding page with numerous questions. Haha.

Pretty sure I will! Same here about welding in school. Wasn't that I didn't want to I took shop and numerous other classes, it just didn't appeal to me back then. Which now looking back it would have been great. Reading and watching videos makes me feel like I'm back in Kindergarten in grade school learning.

I on the other hand, DID take welding and machine shop. It's obvious now that I should have paid attention.....

Definitely take Mark up on the offer.
SA was gracious enough to do that for me and it is invaluable to have an individual like that help you take out the kinks and it is so much better than a class with 1 instructor and lots of students.

I need to get back with SA for some help on my Aluminum Tig. He is available but I just never have the time. I NEED TO RETIRE from my primary job and do less with my secondary so I have some spare time.

From the pictures of your shop --- (it looks like you never use - except for cleaning and polishing). Then you show something you made and you had to make it somewhere. I'd say you learned it somewhere even if you didn't pay attention. :confused3:

What is going to be your first welding project?

Learning to get a good bead and straight lines.

After that I have two sets of disc harrows & a utility trailer needing some attention I hope to tackle.
