There are a lot of former admirals rolling over in their graves at the state our navy has fallen to. One can only hope that that is not the typical of the rest of the navy.

In the meantime, the Navy rescued two women and their dogs who claimed to have left Hawaii for Tahiti (about 2,000 miles south) in a 50’ sailboat. They claim an intense storm disabled their engine and mast: NOAA shows no unusual storms then.
They were rescued about 1,000 miles from Japan - NW of Hawaii. The boat had an EPIRB, which they never activated. Oh, and their boat was attacked by 75’ sharks....

It absolutely is. The sailors don’t receive enough training before they are sent to the fleet, and the ships are so short-staffed they can’t do enough OJT.
As usual, the guys in the field take the fall for faulty policies. Let’s see how many Admirals take a fall.....

I particularly found the officers statement that the "AIS screen was hopelessly cluttered and was useless" a little incredible.
Translation: "I really don't know how to read this thing, and I don't have the time to figure it out".

In this day and time the ones that have stars on their shoulders are deep in the politics and nothing probably will happen to them. They will probably blame it on the seaman cleaning the head and give him 30 days in the brig and 45 days restriction. Look what happened to that clown the deserted his post and was partying with the tal-a-bon for 5 years. Nobody is held accountable anymore. Just look at biliary. Blame it on someone else and lie is the way to go. It pays to be a crook and cost to be honest.
