"Shiny. AND organized" - I know, who'da thunk?!? (Actually, several of those "toys" still need the "SSP&P" treatment, good mini-project for a REALLY crappy day) :D

OP05, I'm starting to get the impression you're not sure what I'm talking about on a "bridge crane" - Maybe it's a geographical thang - and yeah, I saw your "wooden wood jib crane", really liked it - but you're right, more weight might go better with steel -

Oh, also - if you ever think your jib might not be strong enough for the weight (most I've seen that were rated a couple tons with maybe a 12 foot radius, had a concrete pad poured that was 3-4 FEET thick and about 10 feet square) there's ANOTHER possible way - it's just a jib crane, but with a rolling A-frame supporting the open end - PITA if it's not necessary, but another option if there's no practical way to get enough jib support - Thought I had a pic or two of one, but can't find it... No it has nothing to do with a geographical thing, it's a East Coast West Coast thing and or the Rocky Mountain language barrier thing where the communications gets mumbled and bumbled, the next thing you know I have to fill out a Hurt Feeling Report thing.

For 30 years at the shipyard I always heard those referred to as just Overhead Cranes, but dont tell me you're going to make something that big, think most shops are at the 1-2000 lb mark at the most, looking forward to your bridge crane build, I'll reread your resume again making sure you're qualified to build one. I agree on a Jib crane a rolling A frame would be a PITD, if was making a 1000 lb Jib, I'd consider an overhead rail for the open end to ride on, but then again if I was going over a 1000lb lift, I think a bridge crane would still be betterah.

Your wood stove door still looks bowed, bigger hammer required, or was there something else wrong, maybe it was straight and you had to put more of a bend in it or there was glass in the door and had to be removed? but some nice welding on the inside plate.

You wore the guides on that Timberline sharpener, how much does the replacement parts cost? But sometimes it's still more interesting making parts yourself, I'd say you have a metal lathe for making those, nice.

The wood stove door is bowed because it's a round stove. It's a long ago propane tank I'm converting into a stove. I never looked at the replacement part cost. I needed them now and making them was satisfying. Edit, it appears the parts are $17 plus shipping.

East coast/West coast/Rockies ? Kinda the definition of Geography, aint it? :D Oh, and I wouldn't worry 'bout those Hurt Feelings Reports; I tend more toward THOUGHTS than FEELINGS, I'm a Republican

In the container thread (post#2) I laid out the general specs for my internal crane, it's nowhere NEAR the size of those either you or I am familiar with, especially YOU from the shipyard gig - I"d imagine you've seen some that would dwarf the ones I'm used to, they're only anywhere from 5 to 100 tons where I worked last.

Anyway, mine is pretty much just a scaled down version of the ones I'm used to, minus the need for hot rails and power ANYTHING - but it'll sure beat the SNOT outa what I do NOW, I just wish my old bod moved as fast as my brain still does cuz it'd be done last week  ...Steve

I was just seeing if I could catch you off guard, guess not, I'll try again later.
Back in the day the old preacher I use to listen to did a sermon on contracts, he was saying "someday your brain will start making contracts that your body can't fulfill" He's long gone now but 30 years later I still remember those sermons and how true they are becoming for me now. Now off to that container thread you mention.............

I resemble that quote, right now I can almost fulfill them all, it's just not in the time I guesstimated;)

I have one of those tanks and I mean 40 year long ago, how thick are they? look forward to pictures of your stove. See you saved yourself $17+, that's enough to buy breakfast at the local restaurant.
