OP05, I'm starting to get the impression you're not sure what I'm talking about on a "bridge crane" - Maybe it's a geographical thang - and yeah, I saw your "wooden wood jib crane", really liked it - but you're right, more weight might go better with steel -

Oh, also - if you ever think your jib might not be strong enough for the weight (most I've seen that were rated a couple tons with maybe a 12 foot radius, had a concrete pad poured that was 3-4 FEET thick and about 10 feet square) there's ANOTHER possible way - it's just a jib crane, but with a rolling A-frame supporting the open end - PITA if it's not necessary, but another option if there's no practical way to get enough jib support - Thought I had a pic or two of one, but can't find it...
