We have had the Lithium 12 volt Milwaukee using the shipping battery and a much smaller one off their 12 volt flashlight and even the tiny one will pump out a tube if fully charged. In short I do not think 12,18 or 20 volts makes any difference for general greasing jobs around the place.
I agree going with one that uses the same battery config as other power tools may the the tail that wags the dog as to which brand to buy. I expect our grease gun will last a life time but I know the batteries will not. It looks like the 18v Lithium batteries used by our Kobalt power tools are getting about 3-6 years per battery.
