31ーF and clear skies this morning, going up to 48ー today.

Having a cruddy day at work so far today. I've had one guy trying to justify that we cannot seem to drill a round hole, but it's OK, even after the customer had just complained about the holes not being round (how on earth do you drill a triangular hole with a round drill bit in a drill press?!). Another guy is telling me that the parts our customer just rejected are fine. A machine operator is trying to convince me that our best welder should just "make do" with the cruddy parts he made for him. What the ...?!?!?! What are these people smoking today?!

Gaaaah!!! Need to make a fresh cup of hot green tea, close my office door, and listen to some nice, relaxing classical music.

hah!!! did that with Corelli this morning in my office, God I love that music...

After finding a drug store where I can buy another heat wrap, I'm off to my step brother's farm in New Hope PA for a long visit.

Bucks County PA is old stomping grounds for us, met wifey there at Delaware Valley College in 1978... Boy has that area changed a lot. New Hope is a great place to chill out... Enjoy

Nice choice! Love Corelli. Baroque string music is far and away my favorite. The Italian composers excelled at that like no others (don't tell the Germans I said that).

Back from tire dealer. New tires mounted and inflated. $12 per wheel. I would have paid double that. Them 6” rims are tough.
Now I need half a roll of blue tape to get wheels ready for painting.

Just used the Fiskars pickaroon for the first time to load up three buckets worth of red oak to move up to the shop door since it's supposed to cold, snow, etc. this coming week.

First time I've used one and man does it ever make it easy.

If it wasn't blowing 25 mph I probably would have went ahead and moved the whole pile.

One of my many summer jobs while attending college was as an NDT tech/QC inspector. I was once sent to a steel mill where work was being done on a big electric furnace. The foreman on the job directed his crew to make welds that were not on the print, and asked me what I was going to do about it. I told him nothing, that my job was only to report the nonconformance. That was on graveyard shift, and the next morning I found myself accompanying the day shift inspector, a senior member of the company, to the Big Boss's office. He chewed us both out very good, and I was warned before going in to just keep my mouth shut. I did, and after the "meeting" was told that's the little game that was being played. Management couldn't control their own workers, and instead of taking the blame themselves, put it on us. Our company didn't care, as we didn't have any authority over their workers, and the constant stream of screwups resulted in many hours of engineering and inspection time to fix them. It also meant extra work for the union workers, so everybody except the bosses paying the bills was happy.

As far as the triangular holes, that can happen when a small pilot hole isn't made before going on to a larger bit. The rest of it is just bad attitude, something that seems in no short supply in this country. We're rapidly devolving to 2nd and even 3rd world standards with regard to service and product quality. :2cents:

I was the lead metrologist at a engine plant. Out of round holes, could be a bad tool, too high a feed rate, or maybe a fixture issue. I’ve made holes out of round on purpose, by sharpening a drill bit with one land longer than the other. Generally, though if roundness is a issue, you aren’t using a drill bit. If you have to use a drill press, a reamer will give you a better result, and better feature control. Tight tolerances like cylinder bores are bored then honed.

I agree, I actually own the entire Harpsichord collection of Scarlatti... amazing music. Of course, one still has to leave a spot for JS Bach, he might possibly be the pinnacle of classical music. Sorry, Mozart...
