Todays shop time.

My shop time today consisted of replacing the gasket on my wife's 2003 Olds Bravada. At about 70K miles, I had the local Chevy dealer install a new pump due to bearing failure on the original.
When a buddy and I finally got the pump exposed, we found that 3 of the 5 bolts were not even hand tight. The bolts could be turned a couple rounds by hand before getting snug. I don't know if they were never tightened or not tightened enough to keep them from vibrating loose. I will have a chat with the service manager next time I am in town.
Such a pain to replace a $5 gasket. Special tools required (AutoZone loaned them for no charge other than a $180 deposit)to remove the fan and clutch from the water pump pulley before you could pull the fan shroud and fan assembly out as one piece. After that it was a 5 minute deal to remove the 5 bolts on the pump, put on a new gasket and tighten the bolts back. 10 minutes more and the job was complete, much easier going back than taking apart.

talking about moving wood, saw something online where a guy had taken the grain elevators off two old combines, and rigged up a long conveyor from his woodpile to his house. Not sure if his wife had any say on what that looked like... ;)

Sounds like a Red Green solution to the problem:D

Been remodeling bathrooms recently, I am currently trimming out the second and last one. My trim carpentry skills are ok but I am not fast. My old Makita chop saw is not really up to the task (warped fence and other age associated ills), so the cutting tasks are relegated to the cabinet saw and band saw for coping. I probably put in about 15 or more round trips between the upstairs bathroom and the shop today, I like to think of it as healthy exercise:laughing:. All but one piece of the base trim is cut, the glue ups are done so I will get it finished up tomorrow.
A real trim carpenter would be laughing his A off at me for taking 2 days to do a job that they could knock out in an hour or two .....
But it's time playing in the shop and being retired time is one thing I have a lot of:D

it's not the destination, it's the adventure....
You were just measuring twice before cutting that's all.

Yep. People tell me I should sell my works. I enjoy the challenge of making something. After I've made a couple I've got the process figured out and I'm done.

I have been told the same thing, but that would turn it into a job and at the rate I like to work at I would either have to charge an insane amount or work for fifty cents an hour....

Kind of my problem too. I am not real disciplined to stick to repetitive jobs. Once the challenge is over, my motivation wanes. Retirement when that comes, my change my attitude out of necessity.

Same problem here. I could make more money at McDonald's unless something drastic changed. Here's the start of a rolling pin I'm making. IMG_0806.JPG

It probably took an hour to get things figured out. After that it went pretty quick. You glue up an octagon with triangles then cut it into pieces and glue back together. IMG_0805.JPGIMG_0810.JPG
