It probably took an hour to get things figured out. After that it went pretty quick. You glue up an octagon with triangles then cut it into pieces and glue back together. View attachment 532102View attachment 532107
I was just going to ask you to post a pic of the end. Looks great. I might file this one away. I have a fair bit of walnut and ash/oak scrap I could use.

I later decided there's no need for triangles that meet in the center and changed to trapezoids that leave the center hollow. The advantage is a larger diameter pin with the same stock thickness. IMG_0811.JPG

I sharpened chainsaw chains today... I've been getting behind on that job, but now that the cold is here, I managed to get most of them done...

In the past, owning my own custom furniture/cabinet shop, I made truck loads of things to sell, cutting boards, rolling pins, hutches, pie safes and about everything else...

Here's a book matched and quarter sawn oak hutch,

One of my best money makers was sewing tables, but what I enjoyed making most, was making mantle clocks, like this one,

It's been some time since I made one, so one of these days I'm going to make a few more...

Ha, I am on the same page as we speak! I was just sketching out a diameter using 3/4 stock on hand to see what it would yield. Your timing is perfect.

How many hours into cutting and glueing up the blank? It's going to be someone's treasure!

I'd say after the second one about an hour each. That's before turning it and making handles.

Here's the process. Most people don't release how little glueing is actually done in this kind of work. IMG_0812.JPGIMG_0813.JPGIMG_0814.JPGIMG_0815.JPGIMG_0816.JPG

Rob, your hutch must be, at a minimum, 20 stories high compared to your tractors.

Now you know why I don't list all of my tractors in my signature! :)
