Brings back memories of long ago projects.

Back then each project would include a stop at the local self-serve car wash for a pressure wash... and then the fun began.

You are making great progress!

Those look like a great deal; I'd jump on those quick. When I was looking around for deals, I found one killer deal, but somebody bought the entire lot the day before.

4rib - definitely pricey. My other tire is holding out for now, and I want to spread that cost out over time. Ton 'o rubber on that 4rib though, it weighs probably twice what came off the old rim. My rims are fairly wide, so I bit the bullet and went 4 rib - drove a good hour West to big-farm country to get the deal I needed (still stupid money, this is Canada.....), but way better than what the one big local industrial tire shop wanted for a 4 rib.

Unless you plan on doing some crazy loader work with Olly, I'd have those 3 ribs rolling your way ASAP

Rgds, D.

" still stupid money, this is Canada"

I feel for you!
I have a seasonal residence in Nova Scotia, and never cease to be amazed at costs.
Of course, the US dollar is valued at 20% more, which is good for me.
I bought windows (he remodeled his 2 houses) for a Nova Scotia friend, at a Home Depot in the USA.
He picked them all up at the US Home Depot, and he paid 15% duty at the border, and still saved $5000 over the Canadian Home Depot price.
Nothing illegal about it that I know of.
USA Home Depot website would not permit him to place an internet window order from Canada.
Why?
No idea!
I was happy to help my Canadian friend (I have many) save $5000.

But I digress: This thread is REALLY about a wonderful Oliver transformation.
I apologize!

Took a little bit but I got some more done. Crank seal, timing cover, crank pulley and governor installed today. Tomorrow I'll pull the oil pickup screen off and clean it up, then install the oil pan.

Small progress, but I hope to fire it up soon. If only I can find the correct dang water pump, sure would be nice.

Have you considered having the water pump rebuilt?
Did I miss something about it in this thread?
Is it missing, or cracked?

Nice project and good work so far.

We had a fleet of Oliver tractors at the ranch in Lovelock Nevada back in the day. I was the ranch mechanic and spent long hours trying stay ahead of the haying crew that was determined to break everything possible.

I recall rebuilding the water pumps by pressing in a new bearing/seal/impeller. I wonder if you could find a "kit" for yours? A find would be a NOS bearing kit.

The engine in our 1655 (think it was) was a Perkins. Who made the engine in yours?

When it was really cold out, I'd use that Oliver to tow our D4 Cat to get it started. We would park the big Oliver in the shop at night, where it was a bit warmer, and then use it to get everything else going in the morning. I think we had six small Olivers and the 1655 4WD with Hydraulshift.

I haven't been able to find an exact replacement pump, I got something similar with a pulley included, which isn't correct. The bolt spacing for the fan isnt right, neither is the v-groove. I had to pull mine off and use the old pulley, which will work, only I cant press it on all the way because the impeller shaft on the new pump is shorter. It's not ideal but, it's not a high revving race engine! LOL. it should be fine.

I was able to find a rebuild kit, after the fact..I also found a NOS water pump & pulley exactly like mine, but for $450 bucks!!

My engine is made by Waukesha.

Today I cleaned all the sludge off the head and pulled the rocker arms & put 'em in a sonic cleaner. I polished the shafts and assembled with moly lube. Adjusted the valves to spec, they operate nice and smooth now!

Had to lay on my back and scrape gasket material for a while, and got the oil pan installed.

Nice job on the restoration. How much time do you think you will have in it?

"smudge pots" boy I don't see them around much anymore. Using one of them out in the cold makes you one dedicated soul.

Thank you! I think I have quite of bit of time into it already. The day I pulled it out of the field out was the same day I started this thread, December 1st. Every day I probably put in about 6 hours on it. Diagnosing the original problem and trying to get it started to see it if was worth fixing took 3 days. LOL. Then taking it apart and cleaning, sandblasting, painting parts. Installing, studying the service manual, Internet research, parts resourcing. LOL. You know how it goes! I bet I'm at 100 hours. lol

I do hope though to have it back together and operational by Christmas. -If there's nothing wrong with the hydraulics...
