4750, I’m curious to see how you clamp your initial glue-up? Can you share? Nice project!

1/64th scale...

Anyway, I spent a few hours in my shop today building a shelf unit for my pantry... It will clean up and organize it a bit.

I built it out of some "mis-cuts" off the BSM, I always set them aside, just for a job like this.

I turned 2 more pieces tonight. The maple piece would have had a nicer profile if it had 1" off the bottom but it was rough turned too deep for that. Anyway most non wood turners don't notice profile or wall thickness unless it's awful. It's pretty satisfying pulling nice curly shavings off dry wood. IMG_0828.JPG

I once had a neighbor 35 years ago when I worked in the woods, he made these bowls out of wood. One day while bringing out wood with a skidder I saw a big 2'-ish burl on a side of a tree, after work I went back in and cut it down, of course the boss had to ask what I was doing, told him my neighbor buys these burls, ok he said.

Next day I come to the job site and the boss ask what I got for that burl, I said $150.00, he goes WHAT!!, he was thinking like I was, $10-$20.00, and yes I thought I did alright since I was only getting $5.30/hr. Well he told his boss and that was the end of that, a message came down to all 5 of us, from now on ALL burls will be turned into the company, it was a small sawmill company with it's own wood harvesting crew, I no longer cared looking for tree burls while on the job after that, and that sawmill co is long gone now and so isn't that bowl turning neighbor.

Here's a cherry burl I found. I haven't turned it yet to see what it looks like. IMG_0820.JPG
