2019 Silverado

I agree! My 11 sits lower to the ground than my 04 did, thats a bad thing with deep snow. I loathe GM's low slung frames.

It’s for fuel economy, the lower it is the better the fuel economy.

Look at that, some SUV's have more ground clearance than their z71 edition has. I have however noticed the newer 2500/3500 gm trucks finally have some height to them, which is good.

2500/3500 don’t have to meet fuel economy standards so they are higher. 1500’s do so low to the ground.

Gross. Looks like an overgrown Colorado

The current generation actually has quite a bit of real ground clearance if you get a 4x4, and can increase further with various packages. Here's a shot of my 2014:

The abnormal low spot is the air dam in front, which is easily removed if you want to gain another 4-5" at the chin (at the expense of gas mileage of course). I left mine on because I do a lot of highway driving and like getting 22-23mpg in such a large truck, but would definitely take it off if that weren't the case. It's ugly, out of place, and would be a major liability for offload use. I've even scraped it on parking curbs.

No one "made you" buy all those options...

I bought a Chevy truck without all that crapola... I saved a LOT of money not getting all of those options...

As I understand, you can't buy a vehicle in the US now without TPMS - federal requirements as of 2008 model year. In the near future expect the same for anti-lock, traction control, blind spot monitors, etc. All good things in my opinion but you probably won't have a choice thanks to Federal regulations.

Many auto manufacturers are going away from TPMS sensors in lieu of the anti-lock brake computer doing a similar function. VW, Audi, Honda have done away with the sensors already. Also the TPMS sensors are much cheaper than they were back when they first came out.

The bad thing is any new vehicle being made is garbage, gone are the days when one could buy a rig and have it 20 years. I can't find some dealer parts for numerous vehicles over 10 years old.

In Europe some cities are banning the internal combustion engine soon so things are going electric quite quickly.

Last week I had 2 used cars delivered from the south and the trucker had a 2017 Ram Cummins that he bought 4 months ago and had 60K miles already. He said in that short time the DEF tank was bad and some other small issues. He said the 2016 Ram he traded needed a rear diff at 60K and the trans was slipping by 90K.

I constantly see BMW, Audi engines bad before 90K from bad timing chains and issues not cared about by the OEM manufacturers.

Wake up folks this new stuff is garbage.

Whatever vehicle you choose make a plan to be out of it in 5 years!

Good luck, Fred

Gonna keep my 2003 2500HD crewcab 4x4 6.0 vortec w/4.10 rear end. Mileage sucks but it pulls a lot of heavy stuff. Only 140K on it.....still new and looks good.

A lot of people talking about ground clearance. What do you guys use your trucks for that need all that ground clearance? Are you going off-road with them or just on worksites or logging roads etc?

I think a lot more guys on here would actually use some ground clearance, however I think a lot of people are just lifting they’re trucks for the “looks”.

I drive my truck off road ( not mud holes ) a fair amount. And I like being able to drive over a 6x6 block or a piece of firewood. And not dragging the front of my truck on parking blocks.

I use my trucks to go to a cabin high in the snowy range mountains. The roads are not Forrest service maintained, therefore lots of rocks and ruts. I need ground clearance to avoid dragging the undercarriage over rocks.

I hate lifting a truck, it changes the geometry of the steering and suspension, thus limiting capacity. I want an OEM that has the height so I don't have to worry about things.
