Jerry, how so on breaking the rings? The stuff I bought says it has lubricants in it to prevent damage to cylinders.
I'll check the spark as soon as I can get some help, I can't reach the start button and see the plug wire from a single spot...lol
Thank you for your input.

It the shock load as the starting fluid detonates in the cylinder(s). It's not a lubrication issue.

OK, did not know this, I won't use it then. Thanks.
I'm beginning to think it has low compression as it does have something going on with blue smoke out the breather to the point where they installed a heavy hose to the rear of the tractor for it instead of recycling it back to the air cleaner.

It was 35 here today mid day, hooked the jumpers from my truck to it and got it fired up. I believe it's a fuel issue, I noticed a small patch of yellow snow under the carburetor area. It took some crankin and some finesse to get her going but once running it ran great. I moved some snow and some firewood with it then parked it out back, it will probably be there till spring :(

Maybe a new Zenith carb?

Good luck with her, the carb isn't to bad to rebuild after a good soaking, have you pulled the sediment bowl and checked the screen in it. Some of those engines take a lot of choke.

LouNY, I haven't done anything yet. I intend to take the loader off for paint this spring so getting at the important stuff will be easier, the points, cap and rotor and the carb.

Sounds good, enjoy the temps the next couple of days and we will have to see how the ice and freezing rain ends up.

I see you're just over the hill from me, nice knowing someone is close by, we'll have to get together someday and have a hot chocolate.
I hope the heck we don't get any freezing rain, don't need that. I may have to stuff the tractor into the garage, at least i can light a fire and get it warmed up, if my firewood get's too icey it will be a giant PIA for me.

Swing by JC Tractors down in Hoosic Falls, he seems pretty decent for a dealer, new and used.
