Tying knots

I learned the knot Moss Road explained above while buying a pair of Rocky boots at a local sporting goods store back in the 90's. It became my "go to" knott when the kids were small and hadn't learned to tie their own shoes. They called it the "daddy knot".
Their kindergarten teacher asked me to show her how to tie it when the subject came up during a parent/teacher conference, she told us our kids never had untied shoes at school, unlike the rest of the class.
I have shown it to several coworkers over the years and most still use it now.

The infamous "knife" knot that you cut off with a knife haha or the "who" knot as in WHO in the heck tied this?? Commonly known as groundman or apprentices haha

Try that knot I mentioned above for shoes. Works on all laces.

It’s too late. After giving up on bows and trying a square knot that also loosened... I solved the problem permanently. Since these are ‘slippers’ I decided to yield to their intended function and I cut the heavy square leather laces very short with some sharp scissors. Problem solved! **** things were basically decorative anyway.

I learned all the common knots in Boy Scouts and my boys know them from the same. I also learned a one-handed bowline that I taught to our scouts. Logic from my scoutmaster at the time was, if you need a bowline, likely you are hanging onto something with one hand. It's pretty slick!

Nice!

Sounds like my wife's sister.... she never learned to sew doll clothes, so she use scotch tape.

Line between two fingers, make the little looping motion, let go of the main line and cut my fingers off....

Yep, I got that one down pretty good, too!

I was told that I would need to know how to tie it so I could get out of a hole in the ground with a broken arm. I'm still afraid that it's going to happen one day!!!

Let’s just hope they aren’t shoveling dirt on you at the same time. That will make it doubly hard.

They told us that, too. Like all of our leaders had fallen into holes, or were expecting to some day. Hope it never happens.... but I do carry about 60' of climbing rope in a throw bag in my truck. Have for 25 years! :confused3:
