contemplating a 3pt snowblower.....

   / contemplating a 3pt snowblower..... #21
My BIL and I recently got finished rebuilding/restoring my Ford 1210 tractor, 4wd with Hydrostatic Drive, I immediately bought a lightly used Ford 702a front blade (60"). Looking forward to our first snow. This is extremely unusual for me, I hate snow. Since I live in central Kentucky, I may not get a lot of opportunity to use this blade but, I consider it just like insurance, ya have to have it and no one ever wants to have to use it. ;) But, you're darn glad you do have it when you need it.

Regardless, I'd still be interested in a front mounted snow blower. **** might freeze over at any time.
I have two concrete driveways that I've been clearing of snow with a walk behind 8 horse snow blower for several years, I also blow the three neighbor's driveways and two elderly folks driveways down the road a bit. While I don't have to do this often, when I do I want to get it over with as quickly as possible.
So, with that information, can anyone recommend a front mounted snow blower in the 60 inch range?
Any suggestions?

i looked on tractor data and they said that a 1210 has 13.5 pto hp
that is kinda low for a 5 ft blower, plus it seems to me that a 60 inch blower would physically be quite big on that size tractor-the rear mount that ford made for it was a 48" do you have the optional mid pto?

You're probably correct, I'm a newbie as it applies to snow blowers. Never had one before. But every thing I've read says you want the blower to cover the width of the tractor tires. Of course, I understand that if it's deep snow, one would have to proceed slowly but, I thought the blower should be as wide as the tractor.

Edited: Yep, my 1210 has the optional mid PTO. Never had a use for it before

but, it's there. Thanks for the response. :drink:

if snow deep enough to blow is not common may i suggest a 48" rear push? IT would be easier to find, much less expensive and easy to resell. Typically front blowers are either tractor specific or quite expensive. The issue with rear push blowers is often that turning around to watch them becomes painful or problematic if used for a long duration. Sometimes the best compromise is to use a blade then switch to a blower to make the piles go away. I have a soft spot for the ford 10 series a 1710 was my fist tractor. They are really good tractors, enjoy yours

Do 99% of my snow removal with rear blower, have loader/bucket on front too. A blade would work REAL good for this kind of snow.....

I have a 40hp tractor and loader, a rear blade, a 3pt rear mount snowblower and an ATV with a plow.

1-2" - ATV with plow
2-6" - Tractor with rear blade
6" + - Rear mount snowblower

I would love to have a rear pull snowblower, and keep looking for a reasonably priced used one...

it does help to have the blower as wide or wider than the tractor - How wide is yours?- i couldn't quite figure that out from tractor data.
Is yours gear or hydro?- much easier to feather the speed with a hydrostatic. edit- i saw that its hydro- good
The beauty of a rear blower in your case is that many different widths are/were made and they are largely interchangeable rather than being model specific

The Ford 1210 with turf tires is 48" both front and rear (sidewall to sidewall). My 1210 is hydrostatic drive. It does have the mid-PTO. Have been watching Craigslist for something I can adapt to it. Since I already have the front blade and sub-frame, I'm thinking I can adapt a blower to fit the sub-frame and use a 50" or slightly bigger snow blower to work. I also have a ninety degree gear box with a pulley on one side I could use but, I'd rather not have to go with belt driven.

Honestly, this is kind of a bucket list idea. I would rarely need a snow blower in Central Kentucky, I just want one.

Save your money and copy the snojac snow blower wings design for your walk behind snow blower and use some new round baler belt for the scrapers.
