I am sure Wal MArt is looking at the semi's because 1. Wal Mart can afford them, 2. Wal Mart can afford to put battery stations across the country because that is the ONLY way they can operate. That is a LOT of $$$ invested just to say you're running electric trucks. Instead of stopping for fuel, they swap batteries so the truck does not have to stay overnight.

Now for the MILLIONS of drivers in the country, who is going to stock batteries for them, and at what cost?

What they do NOT advertise is how fast that battery drains if you are not always in eco mode. Every pass, every fast run up an on ramp costs in battery life, far bigger penalty that for a gas or diesel powered car.

The Tesla S can get to about 140mph but only run there for 18 min before the computer cuts it to safe mode to prevent melting the motor and battery. So what mode will semi's have to go to after climbing the passes of mountain ranges?

The scariest part of the whole deal, is Tesla still has not turned a corporate profit. Having said all that, let me qualify it by saying I have a Tesla solar system and Powerwall battery on my house. It is mine, not a lease, and it concerns me to wonder if they will be around to warranty the battery.

The Tesla company operates on government subsidies, investors and sales, and they still can't turn a profit? It's like a subsidized ponze scheme to me.

Here in CA only the wealthy buy them. I don't want one now or ever, personally. Greenies act like they are soooo clean, but care less, or are ignorant, of where CA has to buy the electricity from. There is a coal fired power plant in AZ that is on Indian reservation, that produces electricity solely to CA.

Solar power plants eat HUGE acreage of CA land and are eyesores, as well as the windmills. They are forcing the closure of PG&E's Diablo nuclear power plant and I can guarantee you they will buy electricity from elsewhere to replace it. In addition they are tying it up in court to make PG&E pay millions to account for the lost income to the San Luis Obispo County area for all the workers that will be laid off.

SO yea, I'm all in for electric vehicles....NOT. It's a scam pushed on us by the government and those that control them because there is money to be made by forcing all of us to be dependent on them even more.

How is it more dependent vs refining gasoline/diesel? You can run a solar array and be 100% self sufficient.

Over here in WA all our power is hydro, last I checked it was 7% fossil fuel based including natural gas.

Tesla makes very little off of zev credits these days and incentives are ending soon. They aren't posting a profit since they're reinvesting in tooling. Their books are public and you can look at it all there. Amazon was the same way for years and now look how large they are.

Just because they can afford it doesn’t mean they’re going to throw money away. They’ll run the cheaper to operate truck for obvious reasons.

Seems to me Tesla and bitcoin are the same kind of scam.

Amazon was never dependent on the government, Tesla is. Amazon's income was re-invested in the business--There is still concern in the investment community about the profit issue there, but they will live or die on their own. Big isn't always better.

My point is for years people were saying the same thing about Amazon, deferring profits for future marketshare is a viable path. Tesla could drop the Model 3 and make profitability today, however then they'll never make more than ~200k cars a year.

It's not like Tesla has some unique deal with the government, the programs they use are available to any manufacturer.

Not that I'm any fan of bitcoin(or any blockchain, I've yet to see a viable use for them) but I can't tell if you're posing this just to get a rise or if you really don't understand the basics of cryptography.

I suspect that Walmart and others will be using these on routes where their trucks run from a regional warehouse to stores that are close enough for the truck to get back to the warehouse and park each night.
