Massey 1540 starts idles but no increase of rpms

Have a 1540 massey 2007 with power shuttle. I can start the engine, it will idle but will not accelerate. Little more black smoke than typical. did this last time I used it and with time rpms came back.

I am running winter fuel with antigen additive. Check air cleaner, looks ok. now what?

I went to see how mine is set up. I'm thinking yours may be similar. Mine has what I would call a throttle linkage/cable that hooks to a little "arm type thing" on the injector pump. First off I would make sure that is all hooked up and moves freely when you work the throttle. If it has come unhooked, that is probably the problem. You may have to use some wd-40 or some kind of penetrating oil and free it up if it don't move very well. If the throttle and linkage/cable are all working well, then it is time to "shop elsewhere so to speak" I'd try the fuel.filter especially if you are getting an occasional surge. I have seen a bad fuel filter let enough fuel through to let them run at an idle, but not let them rev up and do anything under load. If those two things check out, I'm running out of fixes and we may have to get the pump guy or txjim involved and get their thoughts on it.

I checked the linkage looks good. Will get a fuel filter. One thing that is confusing is the black smoke which tells me it is getting fuel, but maybe it is gelling so spray pattern is just sufficient to start and idle. but its warm today so I guess not.. thanks for the reply

If it has a CAV/Delphi DPA inj. pump on it.. throttle & shut-off levers on the top cover?
MAKE SURE the shut-off lever is in the run position & not halfway engaged.
While its running, hold the throttle to wide open.. & pull & push the shut-off cable rapidly..
or if its an electric shut-off, do it manually at the pump.
That'll tell you weather or not your metering valve inside the pump is sticking.. or is stuck at idle.
IF the rpms don't increase rapidly & a lot..That wasn't the problem.
I would be looking at fuel "supply".. Most of the time its filters.. either the one on the engine or the one inside the pump inlet.
OR it could be the filter screen in the fuel tank itself..

Better run with the pump guys ideas. The only other thing I can think of might be a restricted air flow. I.E. if some critters say mice or something crawled up in your air breather and decided to make your air breather their home. Maybe it could restrict your air flow enough to cause your problem. You said it happened before and fixed it self. Just a thought and real easy to check.

Pull your side cover and watch your fuel filter bowl. Look for the fuel level dropping in this area as you load the engine. Even though it痴 a fuel restriction condition, the exhaust will show black

the shut off is electric, was looking for the wire but things a crammed in tight. since its going to be 50 out i am going to put some inferred heat on the engine see if it clears up.

These little tractors came with a demon on the fuel tank. It's that cute spill collector around the filler. The tube that drains this collector gets clogged and when it rains, water can get in the vent under your fuel cap. Best thing to do is cut that booger off and check your tank for moisture or algae.
