Odd, my B series just has a little plastic screw type bolt that i can finger loosen and is easily accessible for draining coolant. I did it the other day when I installed the heater core in my cab.

JT you are sick! I've had several uppers, including lungs. No biggie. First and only trip up the Wazoo River granted me a 10 year pass until the next excursion. Last spring, had an endoscopy to find a hiatal hernia. Next time, they want to do both at the same time. Was hoping by now. A camera pill would go in at breakfast, and come out after dinner. Guess they can't figure out how to write a service manual for a BX, so how'd they come up with a swallow cam.

Save money and see for yourself. 5M 6-LED 5.5mm Lens IP67 Waterproof Android Video Endoscope Borescope Snake USB Inspection Camera - Tmart, With a 10 year pass you must have "looked" good and have a "clean" family history. Congratulations with that! I have Barretts caused by the hiatel hernia and a few polyps on their visits so they do both when I have it done and want me to have them every 5 years and not sure how long it's been since last one.
I have one of the cameras I got for sewer line inspections and never used it, sold the property and still have the camera. May see if it works on me. :D:cool2:

I'm not sure what this tunnel is you guys are going on about. But after draining and replacing the coolant did it again after learning about removing the bolt and a lot more was drained. Only can confirm this for the BX24, bought in 2007 I think, with an engine label BX23 something or other. Location is lower block port side.

Huzzah!!! wotalhta!!!! You are the man we needed in this discussion. Thank you for stopping by. REALLY need a first hand, careful description of that water jacket, or block drain of which you speak. In my decade here at TBN, I don't believe 1% of the owners know of such a drain thus this thread was begun.
Photos and descriptions (as if seated on the tractor) would be awesome.
You're so welcome to take over the pulpit here on this topic. :cool2:

I was so encouraged by wotalota's post, I went out to have a look. Took my camera. Granted, I am in a weakened state, just home for the hospital and anesthesia, but that famous/infamous bolt wasn't hard to locate. It is on the port, (left when sitting on the tractor) below the hydraulics pump. My lines with plastic loom covering obscured the view a bit, but there it is. I didn't have a rag to dust off the head of the bolt, but even so the red paint is visible.

A photo for reference perspective and then the photo beyond the side panel.

Well I don't really know much more. Sitting on the tractor, it is on the left side low down. Look at the thread linked previously the images should guide you to it. Roger (rvcrawford) explained were it was and its purpose in that earlier thread. Pointing out hat you have to both drain at the lower hose and in order to also drain the block, remove the red painted bolt. It all checked out when I followed his instructions. It surprised me that something so important was not in the copy of the user manual that came with the machine. But tech writers are human so they say and these things happen. It seems clear to me that initially not knowing about the block drain left me with a mix of old and new coolant in the machine. Now if you do not find such a bolt on your BX and if the amount of fluid that comes out matches closely that capacity listed in the manual then perhaps there is a variant issue in the models.
Happy hunting.
Tom

Oh snap!

It's an easy "find", wotalota. Thanks.

Now, some skeptics believed oil would pour out of that bolt. I'm inclined to find out tomorrow. But it is logical that there WOULD be a block drain on these 700-1200 c.c. Kubota 3 cylinder engines because A.) it was indeed on my B series engine (same as BX2660) and B.) Kubota sells a huge percentage of these same engines to marine applications where winterizing the block is essential and those engines often don't use a radiator as a tractor would. It is just stands to reason, in my mind anyhow, that the BX engines wouldn't have specialized engines with that port filled while the engine was being cast. Easier to just put a bolt into it allowing the engine to be sent to applications such as marine division or stationary gen set.
Hope that makes sense.

My mod idea is install a simple 1" pipe extension and a pit cock. There's plenty of room to do so. That this bolt is "marked" with red paint is tell tale. It's appears to be a brass alloy type cap screw, as a drain plug would be. It is not painted engine grey, though somewhat hard to see in my photo given the dusting of Crawford County dirt on everything.

(Note to my slightly OCD self. Clean engine come spring.)

Hi,
This is great information! I want to put a block heater in my BX2370 and I expect this would be where it goes. Can anyone tell if this plug is about 1" and/or that this is the heater location?
Thanks,
Ray.

Too small for most block heaters, I'm guessing. My block heater is on the other side (starboard), up higher and the dealer used a freeze plug, as they are common called.
