Hello, The rod button is an override, there is a big 3 x6 inch sticker on the window that tells what it is and why and when to use it. It is located next to the ignition switch and the kill switch (fuel stop) . Did yours have hydro static drive? This one has a long shiftier on the right that puts the machine in the speed range you want, 1st, 2nd, third ect, you select the range you want, be it driving to a work area or loading dirt, climbing a hill or what ever and there is a lever next to the steering wheel that is used to go forward and reverse, no clutch. The lever that tells the transmission to change from forward to reverse is electronic operates two different solenoids, they both are hot all the time. GLyford explained that very well to me, I did not know much about this. It is in the 20"s and snowing, it has been snowing for many days so getting out to test all this will need to wait till warmer weather.

My 60H looks similar but with a much more modern looking cab and mine is a 4x4. It has a big Perkins diesel that is brand new with only maybe 50 hours on it. My first diesel rebuild and it runs like a top, smooth, quiet, happy and powerful. even in the dead of winter it starts up without even turning over, hit the key and its purring, I don't get these diesels, there isn't even glow plugs on this engine and it always starts right up no matter how cold it is. I just wish it would move.

I see, yours seems to be much newer. No, mine was not hydro. But it did have a torque converter. My JCB that I now own does have the two solenoids on top of the tranny. I also have a "neutral" button that puts the trans in neutral, something for you to think about. The machine will not start if it isn't in neutral, my guess is when you started the machine via the starter, you bypassed some sort of safety override, this override is still engaged and is most likely why the machine won't move but start via the starter. Could be why also the trans solenoids are getting hot also. I believe there should also be a relay that controls these solenoids and or fuse. Maybe check along those lines.

Thank you, it seems this person has the same problems I do. I have joined this group and will try to find out what he learned and what worked for him. The neutral button they talk about? I do have that but never used it, someone else asked me about this button and that I should check to see if it has shorted out. So much to check, so many possible areas that could have shorted out and being as old as this machine is I have my work cut out for me. Thanks again for finding this new site to possible find answers.

I owned a 1981 MF 60 hoe in the past. I'm assuming yours is a little newer, here's a picture of the one I had. It didn't have to many electronics on it, especially "solenoids" . I also never heard of an "override" button. Usually the large red button you described is a safety feature to "kill' the hoe, usually shutting off the injection pump solenoid. Pushing it in should kill the machine, pulling it out should let it start. Could be the wires were wired in wrong, I don't know. Where are these "hot" solenoids you described located?
It does sound like an electrical issue to me as well.

Looks like that hoe needed to visit the dentist!

Re: runs, will not move

Hello mtwings, I have a mf60h in my shop for repairs.same story owner jumped in it one afternoon and would not start or move.I have opened up the wiring harness and found the problem for the starting issue.that was a bad wire connection at the safety switch on the trans.next I am going to to check and make sure I have power on both sides of the forward and reverse switches and ground one out to see if I can get the old girl moving.I will let you know.

Hello, Wow, thanks for this lead into my problem. Could you help me a little more? What safety switch to the tranny are you speaking of? Where in the harness did you find this? Was it broken or grounding out?
Thanks again Greg
