... except that the nanny state that I live in requires annual inspections and they plug into the computer for emission compliance on your vehicle.

VW found a way around that.... ;-O

And now RAM seems to be in the same boat, It really irks me that a vehicle getting good mileage gets so emissioned that it gets worse mileage or acreage to the gallon.
These new tractors even before the dpf's and def fluid did so much better on emissions then the older ones already, especially the electronic common rail systems. These additional requirements
that increase the fuel consumption are a*ss backwards so called "improvements"
Highway vehicle emissions should be in grams per mile NOT grams per gallon.
Off road shouldn't have been crippled like they have, if the epa needed to regulate them opacity requirements would have sufficed.

Ultimately, I'd agree that emissions should be on a "per mile" basis ONLY, without regard to engine size or type. It may take a little while for all of the tractor and other large diesel manufacturers to figure things out, but they will. Heck, Otto-cycle engines are now at the peak of power in history and the cleanest.
I will note that my Mahindra has no DPF, but uses a catalyst only. So far, no issues, but only in the low 100 hour range.

My understanding is that Kubota has come out with a delete kit for when today’s tractors are sold to the used markets overseas where quality of fuel can be questionable at best. I wouldn’t be surprised if a grey market showed up for delete kits.

I won’t worry about it until when or if I have a problem with the DPF.

I would just like to be able to run the engine at lower RPMs, and let it idle at times and not have to worry about the DPF.

Getting rid of the bolt on junk is the easy part... reprogramming the ECU is the challenge.

OEM's know this. Ford is the best at not locking down their firm ware to open up overrides. Dodge tried from 2007 to around 2013, then they realized they were loosing market share and unlocked the ECU. Tractor owners are the wrong demographic for this stuff to drive the deletes.

It depends on the state too. Some of us are lucky...

The L2501 sounds better everyday.

You can, it'll just do regens more often and clog the DPF sooner. Instead of the 3000 hour design life you might get 2000 hours out of it before it needs a cleaning. There are lots of services that clean DPFs and they'll still be doing it in 20 years when you need it.

True. DPF isn't evil, it's literally filtering stuff that can kill you children—slowly but surely. Eventually a way will be found to regain lost efficiency, same as what the petrol engine makers have already done.
