What is this warning light?

I have a 2003 Mahindra 6500 4x4 with 1031 hours. It runs like a top, with the exception of a weak starter. I am new to tractors.

However, a warning indicator lit on the dash today. I have ordered operators, service, and parts manuals, but as of yet I have nothing and Google is not helping.

This is the warning light. I know red is bad. But I cannot make out the symbol or guess its meaning. Anyone?

I’ll take a SWAG and give this a bump-
Based on what’s around it is seems like an overrev/upshift light. The other lights around it are related to the transmission and lighting.
Again total SWAG and a bump for ya!

Maybe it's an airflow indicator arrow going down with a NOT on top of it... indicating dirty air filter... Heh, a guy can guess, can't he... ??

Couple of things...My 6000 (an '02) has a red light that comes one right after I start it, but still idling...its right above the voltmeter...once I move the throttle up past 1000 rpm, the voltmeter moves up to 14+ volts and the red light goes out...and doesn't come back on...now as far as the weak starter...Mine also has the same starter...I wasn't sure if it was the battery or not...changed the battery, no joy...finally ordered an after market starter about a year ago and it comes to life, even in 20 degree weather like new...I think I paid about $190 for the new starter...worth it big time. good luck with the 6500. I ordered a new starter last night after posting, along with some replacement lights, rops brackets for LEDs, etc.

At first, I thought it was a battery, too. I swapped another battery and got the same result (weak or no start). I tried jumper cables from a running backhoe to the battery and got the same result. So, as a last check, I added 12 volts to the starter (24 total) and the start was immediate and strong. So, the starter is failing. I considered taking it for a rebuild but having a spare is good, too. A new one was about 160 and should be here in a few days.

I have that same LED right above my voltmeter. When I first bought the tractor I thought it was for glow plugs. I guess that is a low battery or voltage light?

Your warning light looks like the same one as #8 for MF http://www.tractorbynet.com/forums/hydraulics/357655-mf-5455-warning-light.html
It might be a Low Coolant warning. (edit) - After seeing the image closer it does look more like a filter image like CobyRupert suggested. I did find a couple images from MF and JD, and a JD manual page. It is an exact match to your light and says it is indeed the airflow indicator warning. It says the air filter needs cleaned or replaced.

For your starter, have you checked the volts getting to the starter from the battery? Could be bad cables or poor connections.

It sure does; and thanks for the links.

Unfortunately, that picture I took isn't out of focus; the tractor sat out before I bought it. Apparently, Mahindra depicts the air molecules as dots, instead of the filter media.

I am going to get new inner and outer filters and see what happens.

It does. Is #8 the air filter/flow?

I did not check the cable (it goes straight from the positive terminal on the battery to the starter, then smaller wires go to lights, etc.) or the voltage--I was in the field--but I did try to start with cables directly to the starter and got the same result. If it is the cable I am going to be real irritated with myself for getting a new starter! I will know in a few days and post the result.

I'm already irritated with myself for removing the tractor battery and replacing it with the (bigger, stronger) one from my old mercedes diesel that was sitting in my pickup, awaiting installation. Now the car won't start. :hissyfit: I will swap it back when I put the new starter in. Mahindra batteries are in a really inconvenient location, it seems.
