Every time I read about you blessed folks with high speed cable or fiber optic service... and how you are unhooked from the landline ****, able to Sling, use your Fire Stick, all Netflixin' this and that, and all the stuff like that.... There is a jealous part of me that wants to say " you can just kiss my ".. [ BUT THEN, I hear a little voice in the back of my head that says " be nice, be nice now " So I don't. And I just go on plodding thru life with my DSL and landline phone..... [ sniff, sniff-sniff ]

Just a few weeks back I saw that a bill was signed by Pres Trump that would open up high speed to rural America. Not sure if subsidy, law changes or whatever and I didn't see any more than that but I do believe we are about to get in on the fast Internet thing.

Our Guv here in Meechigan mentioned some money he wanted in the next budget for rural area high speed. So, it just has to happen this Spring.... I am going to sit out by the gravel road out front and wait... :)

The Government funds you refer to is CAF, stands for Connect America Fund and is in full swing. But don't get your hopes up. All that is required is 10 meg
Like 10 Mb is a bad thing. What real problem some of us have is the cost per GB, 10 Mb would be great, but not if you blow thru you data cap and start spending $10 a GB then your going to watch a HD movie this month, it's gonna cost you.

I fully understand what your saying. I am blessed to have what I have but it didn't come easy or all at once. When I first moved back to the farm I dealt with dialup. I ran across a guy that had a wireless internet service. His service was out of range for me but we worked out a deal. I put up a tower and let him put equipment on it to service the surrounding area and I would get internet in return. At first I had .5meg. It wasn't great but better than dialup. Over time the service improved. He eventually retired and sold his company. The new owners joined his network to theirs and improved it. I now have 10meg and sometimes better which is good enough to stream with.

Youre right, I am blessed and happy to have that but it was a process to get it for sure. Your day will come as well. :)
