Buying Advice HST vs Gear Transmission - which would you recommend on this tractor ?

From my experience using both geared and HST 60HP tractors I averaged a difference of about 2 gallons diesel per ~12 hour day. At $3/gallon thats $6/day

Lets assume you don't use your tractor much and you fill the tank once a week. 50 weeks x $6 = $300

Here's another way to look at it. Each gallon of diesel consumed generates 19.64 lbs of CO2. So thats approx. 40 lbs x 50 weeks = 2,000 lbs or 1 ton CO2 difference.

Since you don't care about fuel economy and money how about sending me an e-transfer $6 per week? I think that'll cover a McPuky's burger once a year...

How does burning a gallon of diesel create nearly 3 times the starting weight in co2? That’s way more use than the average member here uses their tractor. And it’s a bigger tractor than most have. Even 12 hours every week is a lot more than the average member here runs in a year. What are you doing with your tractor to run it that much?

I spent 8 hours on my geared tractor doing loader work one day, and when I got off of it, I thought my left left leg was going to fall off. I swapped that little Kubota for a hydro equipped Kubota right away.

I’d be begging to pay that $6 in fuel consumption if I was doing loader work for 12 hours. That’s not taking into account I’d probably be done in 10 hours with the hst machine.

Google "lbs co2 per gallon diesel and gas"

There's some slightly different numbers floating around because of the US/Imperial gallon thing but bottom line its basic chemistry. I went with 20 lbs because the math was easier. According to the government website its says 22.4 lbs of CO2 per gallon of diesel burned.

When you burn any fuel you consume oxygen. Everything has mass from the fuel to oxygen to the combustion products.

How much carbon dioxide is produced from burning gasoline and diesel fuel? - FAQ - U.S. Energy Information Administration (EIA)

"About 19.6 pounds of CO2 are produced from burning a gallon of gasoline that does not contain fuel ethanol. About 12.7 pounds of CO2 are produced when a gallon of pure ethanol is combusted.

Burning a gallon of E10 produces about 17.6 pounds of CO2 that is emitted from the fossil fuel content. If the CO2 emissions from ethanol combustion are included, then about 18.9 pounds of CO2 are produced when a gallon of E10 is combusted.

About 22.4 pounds of CO2 are produced from burning a gallon of diesel fuel."

It's official, gear tractor pulls harder then the sissy Hydrostatics, want some cheese with your whine.............

Other than the fact that they don’t know how to use a HST tractor what does that prove? The HST in low range is easily capable of spinning its wheels the same as the geared did. If you didn’t jerk the load cell which they did and the test was conducted fairly the results would be close to equal.

It proved that in high range the gear tractor got 3066 while the hydo only got 1119 in pulling lbs...............

That was idiotic. The driver was and is an idiot. Testing the hydro tractor in high range is not only stupid, but downright misleading. High range is for roading the tractor. Only. Why didn't the moron put the hydro in low range? or even medium? You have got to be kidding me.
