I have noticed that seemingly every bolt you remove gets replaced with new grade 8 stuff. Then i noticed the new lug bolts and half were grade 2 and half grade 8. Great project.

LOL. Thanks. It's easier to just replace the bolts rather than cleaning them.

On the lug bolts, I went to NAPA, they only had 5 in stock which had the 6 marks on the head (grade 8). They ordered the rest (same part number) to come in the next day and they had no markings on them...I would have liked them all to match, it bugged me. But now I don't think about it. :)

I'm working on the power steering now...I either need to have the rams rebuilt which is very expensive because they are a sealed unit, they'd have to be cut open, then rewelded. And also the steering ram mount itself where the ball joint goes through, is wallowed out...I need to find someone to drill the ball joint holes out to 53/64 so I can insert a new tapered bushing...My local shop wants $125 to drill the 2 holes, but I understand setup time...

I really don't want to try to drill them by hand, a 7/8" drill bit going through 1/2" steel, I probably would not get great results.

Take some measurements on the steering rams in the open and closed position along with ball joint size. You may be able to cross reference it to a rebuilt unit. That early 60's tractor has many things in common with cars of the era. That ram is the same style as a GM unit used from 58' to 64' on a makes, including corvettes. You might find a rebuilt unit the same size online at a reasonable price. Oliver/White undoubtedly bought them from the same suppliers.

I built a 69 charger as a daily driver in SoCal. God I loved that car. 10 years ago it came to the point I just didn't drive it (gas was near $5 a gallon). Sold it to some guy back east. Man it was a head turner in LA. And just a nice car to drive around.

I had a Jeep Grand Wagoneer (woody) that was the same. Sold it to a guy from KC. Many times wish I had it back.....

I also built a 64 kaiser Jeep wagoner. I mismanaged the project but still came out on top. It was a way cool beast.

I've rebuilt a number of projects that I sold and regret every sale. Moral of the story is to never sell anything** from age 25 to 65 and all will be good.

**Well, you could sell that FWA Ford tractor of yours. It's no good to you and I could get some use out of it. :D

I was told there are two kinds of people and that they seldom change. Some are 'gathers' and some are 'dispersers'. If it was not for the first group there would be no need for the second group. :)

It is amazing the old Oliver did not get scrapped out years ago.

I turn 67 next week and I still am in 'gathering' mode I guess.

I go through a rotational disperse and then re-accumulate series for which there seems to be no escape. Deals just keep appearing and resistance is futile.
