1968 Ford 3000 w Dual 195 loader
Hi Folks,

Total rookie here. Picked up a 68 Ford 3000 withe a Dual 195 Loader. Seems self contained and hooks up to what I am guessing is the front PTO via Pump with spline. Anyway, Used it for a bit , small loads as I learned, and seemed to work fine it was working ok. I unhooked it for about a week while tilling , reattached and it seems like its groaning, a lot slower as well. Drained the oil and the operators manual doesn't recommend fluid type nor can I find a filter I just assumed would be a part of the system.

Any assistance is appreciated . Fluid was greyish / black on draining. Where can I find specs for proper fluid drain/refill unless anyone here knows. Thanks much .

Mick

It sounds like your hydraulic fluid was pretty dirty. You can use any UTF such as Shell Spirax.
Make sure you replace the filters and clean out the screens. Considering how dirty the oil was, I would recommend getting the lines flushed out or changing the oil again shortly afterward.

Thanks for the quick reply. I cant find a filter in the system or on a parts list. Its a self contained metal box with the joystick mounted on the frame of the Loader. No filters visible and no idea on how much oil to fill it with. No dipstick either. SIGH......

A quick Google search found all of this. Looks like there's a manual there that might help you. Also for future reference, you might list that your FEL is a Woods brand. Very popular brand of equipment and knowing that changes responder's direction.

I知 assuming your knowledge level is low, so I apologize if I sound condescending. Your tractor shares it痴 transmission oil with its hydraulics. So you won稚 find any of this stuff on the loader itself. I just did a web search, and it looks like the filter is on the right side below the fuel filter. It痴 a large spin-on. There may also be a smaller cartridge filter inside the transmission case under ther seat. The filler hole should be at the back by the 3-point hitch.

This is where the filter should be.

LOL !! You assumed correctly !! Rookie is probably overstating my level of knowledge. I'll have to get some pictures of my unit on here . No filter on the side .

Thanks ! I do have an owners manual but no pic of any filters or screens that might need to be cleaned. All hoses are connected to the frame as well as the pump and joystick.

Thanks, I found all that as well , but nothing addresses the issues of the filter if there is one . I've searched Missicks and no filter comes up for that model. Im going to have to break down and call a dealer I think . Drained the fluid , not sure as to how much to fill , I've refilled , same issues, ran at 1500+ rpm and still groaning, drained a second time, refilled, same issue though I did get quite a blast of oil from the relief valve :) . Well, my bro in law did , not me. Thanks much for the help. I do appreciate it.

This is where the filter should be.

What you circled in red is the starter on our 1966 Ford 3000. Its hydraulic filter is inside under the lift arms plate but 1968 was a major model change year.

That is one good looking FEL. We are in the process of getting an old Ford one arm 711 FEL mounted on our 1966 3000 diesel for use where the JD backhoe is too big.

Love the tractor, still having issues with power steering but going to get some time to look into a new pump soon for that as well. Loader is in good shape, one long hose going to the front pump needs to be replaced. I notice it jumping around as I lift the bucket. Hopefully a trip to the dealer tomorrow for some info will help me some.

It appears to me this FEL does in fact use it's own fluid source and reservoir. No connection to the tractor. It may not have a filter beyond a screen one in the tank? D2Cat's link might shed some light??

The pump hose movement would be caused by pressure changes, mostly likely from air in the system.

Curious to find the solution to your problem. Hoping it's something simple and cheap. :)

I wouldn’t be surprised if there is no filtration at all. I think it likely needs to be flushed out really well. The groaning could be a sign of blockage.

Does the groaning occur all the time or just when lifting or curling?

Might call these folks. Woods equipment Co. Sioux Falls, SD 605-336-3860. They should know the answer or direct you to someone who does.

Yeah, that was my thought when mentioning Woods earlier.
