CWB, my neighbors have their home on a big lot for sale! Maybe you need a winter get away house? :)

After yesterday's snow, I'm tempted, Kyle, except for the scorpions, floods, heat waves, hurricanes, fire ants, and thorns that grow on everything down there. Oops, sorry, didn't mean to discourage you, CWB!

"..... watching a drone fly into the sunset due to a programming error gave me a sick feeling in my stomach."- RNG

BTDT a few times, but the quads were under my control or more honestly lack of control. My usual excuse(s) were the martinis and/or disoriention by distance and overpowering winds aloft. Most of the little cheap ones have cheap brushed motors that are underpowered and burn out after ~100 hours of operation; the aftermarket heavier duty motors are not much better. When I started this craziness the cheap quads had 3 axis stabilization flight controllers; now most have 6 axis stabilization that can be operator set as to performance parameters.

I wish that I had my best two crashes on video. They were awesome: Skittering across the arctic tundra icepack of my lower field shedding parts along its path of destruction until ending up steaming face planted into the snow with a nice debris field. It looked like something out an old B&W UFO SciFi Movie . The other was an out of control high speed (in reverse) flight cutting its way through the upper tree canopy and mincing leaves, twigs, and small branches as it fell through the tree/shrub canopies. Ultimately burying itself in the leaf litter below and covered by newly minced vegetation. I could not find it until I armed the motors and gave them a tweak with the throttle. A cheap variation on a rototiller.

I am a line of sight operator. First person view (googles/monitors) make me dizzy. Most of the better FPV (TV) unit transmitters are FCC illegal in the USA due to TV signal strength at the given frequencies. My little unit is ~10mA signal strength which is legal.

There is a TBN equivalent in the radio control model world: RCGroups.com Same BS too with food fights and over-involved ego and over-testosteroned opinionated posters. I do not know why newbies to websites always ask the same questions over and over again and never use the sites' decent search engines. There is a thread like this one too. I call it the Wheezing Geezers, *****, Moan, and Complain about Everything Thread. We are approaching the pill and BM count stage. :embarrassed:

Jay said: ...there is an equivalent in the rc world; regroups.com... I used to go there often, then it seemed to 'die off'. Haven't been there for a long while. About 25 years ago, I dug out an old 'Eagle 50' kit that I had purchased as a replacement for the first rc airplane that I had. (The first flight lasted a whopping 60 seconds... Straight up then straight down!). I had the kit for about 8 years at the time...never built it. Had all new stuff to go with it. Asked my then 12 y/o son if he wanted to build it... Sure! :)Well that started the "addiction" of myself and 2 sons. Within a couple of years, we knew all the hobby store owners on a first name basis. I built a 400 sq ft addition onto the house that was dedicated to the hobby (looked like a hobby store in itself). At the time, we had our own business, and the wife did the books. I got a call one day from her and was told with certainty, "if you step foot in one more hobby store, the divorce papers will be waiting for you by the time you get home, oh never mind, you won't have a home to come to!" . That year, spent almost $10,000 without even realizing it. Between the 3 of us, accumulated 46 planes, 7 helicopters, and 6 ground vehicles. Plus, the dedicated enclosed trailer to take everything out to the airfield. We ended up selling off most of the stuff, keeping just a few "prized" models. Kept it to a minimum thereafter. I still fly ever now and then, but it's now been a few years. Once I have more time, I'll convert everything to lipoly and 2.4gig. My one son has 2 small drones that he flies. Other only has nice gas rc truck. I'm afraid to get a drone because I don't want to start another addiction, the first one was bad enough!:confused2:

26F right now. Some snow on the ground from two days ago. Very icy out there. Had to go out of town yesterday......saw four large elk herds on a 50 mile trip.....beautiful.

RNG, My old fire chief is now teaching drone flying at the local C-collage. Might be a bit far to his class but there might be one closer. Ed

Ed- It is not easy learning to fly drones competently in the beginning despite all those videos making it look easy. Easy it is not. I still consider myself as a LOS novice pilot.

LS- Thanks for sharing your "story." I can believe how fast this hobby sucks up the cash. I am on "wifey imposed" RC spending limitations now. I have a lot of posts there at RCG. Our guest room is slowly returning to "guest room" status. The "Flying C" still takes up most of the guest bed. I still have a full hangar of unused aircraft. I rarely post anything there anymore except at the "WG" thread. The rapid advancements in RC "drone" technologies is mind boggling. It's impossible to really stay on top of the advancing technologies and their applications for the consumer markets. This Spring I hope to improve my launch/land site as well as take advantage of flying in places where I have permission to fly.

This RC hobby is incredibly addicting. I am surprised at my "compliance" with the wifey imposed limitations........ so far.. I could build another complete quad like the "C" with all my spare parts and the components no longer used with upgrades...... maybe two. That aluminum frame is heavy; Carbon fiber the next time I build.

You forgot mosquitoes too. But at least it seems the fireants have apparently decimated the tick population.

Just saw a flock of robins, maybe 20 birds. They have been a rare sight down here for the last number of years from my perspective.

Drinking first cup of coffee. 33° with cloudy skies this morning. Heading to 48° with rain in AM. It's a slow snow melt. But melting is winning. Last doctor visit this month, today. One visit to PT and I can walk without pain shooting down my left leg. Gives me encouragement to do the routines that they sent me home with. So I will do those exercises and a fence line walk again today. Only 1/2 mile but up and down a couple of hills. Hope to get at least one nap.

freedomlives, :welcome: to TBN Good Morning. You can post anytime Morning is happening someplace in the world. :D

Kyle, I got a new set of Work Tunes headphones. They are work on Bluetooth. I am happy with them so far. Seem to work better than my old digital AM FM Work Tunes.

Randy. I like my Sams Club LED Shop lights. Linking them together does not allow one light to turn on next light. I put in a receptacle and switch to turn on each set of 4 that are mounted in barn. Out of 10 that I bought 2 of them had to be returned because they failed to work. Easy exchange.

Prayers for all.
Good Morning All.

I have 6 of them in my garage, all on one switch, they draw so little current you can link like 5 in a row. I just turned them all on and wired them through a wall switch. Going to do the same in the building.
