Doing spring maintenance, along with the oil, changed the in line fuel filters (two of them).

See attached. What is this that the first fuel filter runs into?

My thought as well, but have another filter EXACTLY as the same that got installed in the pic. Manual states two filters, which I changed (both white plastic filters, both the same part number on the bag), however the one the arrow is pointing to in the pic is metal.

The filters yes, the mower no:D

The mower is actually John Thomas's old one, and I have no doubt that if there is a "by the book" kind of guy, it's John. Little doubt it's aftermarket or a west virginia add on.

Put the mower away a while ago, but don't remember seeing any wires on it. Looking at the pic again, don't see any as well.

The manual states 2 fuel filters to be changed, doesn't mention a 3rd. I changed 2, the one the arrow is pointing to the first post is the 3rd.

Just wondering...

If the metal one is a fuel filter I would take it out and replace it with rubber fuel line

One is a pre-filter. The other is the fine particle filter.

The one closest to the engine is the fine particle filter (usually 2 micron). The other filter (pre-filter) usually filters down to 10 or 12 micron.

For no more than they cost, you should always replace both.

The purpose is just to keep the fine particle filter from clogging so quickly.
