This tree had been over for a time, the limbs were so high in the air, in a tangled mess that I felt it was safer to cut much of them out from the top down, so that's why I had the apple box along,

standard.jpg

There's still quite a bit of firewood on the ground too... from what got cut out from high up...

Next I need to pick that up and get it all split!

BTW: MANY years ago when I bought that wagon box, it was in good enough shape to hold grain! It's sad to see how I've treated it, but EVERYTHING around here gets used for it's best purpose, or it get's sent down the road!

that's some nice fire wood!!

The goal is 8 cord at 3 trips/cord, it takes awhile, sofar I ended at the unluck 13 trip. IMG-0148.JPG IMG-0143.JPG

In that last picture I had to do one of those rare side way winching tricks, yea a snatch block is better, but if one has some Mcgiver in him, can usually figure something out. I have a couple short videos if they downloaded right

The second tree I cut into and I pinch my saw and it pinched hard, the issue I had was the wind was blowing one way and the doubled up tree was leaning the other way. Now I know most will get there wedges, jacks and a dull blunted axe, and or a real logger will get their second saw, but in those rare events I resort to the buket against the tree for a little extra persuasion. And after this episode, for a cloudy windy muddy day, things went pertty good.

I am always afraid they will go backwards on top of me. So I strap up high, rope/chain WAY back and pull it my direction. I see your L3400 ROPS is super stout. Did you make it?

Gotta be careful when doing this, tree could break off of stump and fall back over the bucket and onto you,ask me how I know. Better to pull with cable and winch.

With a double-stem tree like that, I always cut one stem at a time. Never mind the wind -- the problem as I see it is that you didn't have a predictable way for gravity to act on the notch and hinge in a specific direction. I'm not surprised it sat on the saw.

So I went and bought me a little sawmill so I have a new use for the ol Kubota!

Stocking up, mill should be here next week!

Well, it's time to split this load,

standard.jpg

So, my helper came over and as my wife wanted to help too, SHE decided she wanted to stack the splits into the boxes, and who am I to argue?? So we got everything ready and got started,

standard.jpg

So, we got the smaller pieces out of the way,

standard.jpg

but some of those big boys needed to be "ripped" before we put them on the splitter, so I took my old 268xp along for that chore,

standard.jpg

and as my tractor has it's exhaust out the back, I put a piece of "flex" over the tail pipe to re-direct the exhaust away from us,

standard.jpg

anyway, we ended up with four boxes of splits, so right at two cords...

SO, S :) :) N we will be off to get the next tree!
