I've had a raccoon arrive "uninvited". I caught it drove it a few miles away. It came back in in 2 days. Turned out the 3 mile drive was only 6000 ft as the crow flies. Today I caught it again and drove it 3.5 miles, "as the crow flies". I hear 5 miles is the minimum but can't think of a place where it's away from homes. I don't want to gift my problem to someone else.

Not getting approval to give it swimming lesson in a 55 gal barrow. Now she is just after my bird feeder. but we have 6 peach/cheery trees planted last spring and I know when the peaches are on, all her friends will come out.

I read if your strategy is the kill raccoons, you will still loose the battle. Too many of them out in the forest. We have 6 ft dia fences around each tree and plan to place a hot wire at the top of each.

Any other tricks to keep raccoons out?

I've always shot raccoons, skunks, badgers, porcupines and let the coyotes clean up the mess.

However - consider this - - you are ONLY SEEING the 'coon because there is something at your place that attracts them. 99 time out of 100 that something is FOOD.

Burn barrel, livestock food storage system, your garbage can, fruit trees, unsalvaged garden excess produce etc.

They definitely are not around your place to become friends and new neighbors.

When I started taking my garbage out to be collected by the private garbage company - rather than burning it in my burn barrel - I quit seeing all my "forrest friends". Haven't had a single one around the house for six years now.

I have them, too. Nothing easy seems to work.

Just an item of interest, in my research, I found that in some places there is a distance limit to transporting a trapped animal.

From:
Facts | San Diego Humane Animal Removal

...if you trap an animal you either have to release it within 100 feet of where you caught it or kill the animal.

Another small item - I quit burning my garbage but still had 'coons. Come to find out - closest neighbor - 4.3 mi down the road was still burning. When they raided his burn barrel - they would alway drop by my place and check things out - as long as they were in the neighborhood. Neighbor passed away - 'coons never returned.

I have pheasant/eggs so I deal with four footed critters all the time.NO MERCY from me.Coons, skunks ,possum and fox.I have a game bird state license so I can legally protect my investment.
Best thing I have done is put and electric fence around my pens.

I keep a couple dogs that keep the critters run off for the most part, still have to shoot a few every now and then

One of the best things I ever did was to start killing every coon I see! They are all over here, dead on the hi-ways and a real problem where ever they go.

Just shoot them INSTEAD of taking them some place to dump YOUR problem off, making it SOME ONE ELSES problem!!

IF you don't have the guts to fix YOUR problem, them let them go on their way in YOUR area...

My wife would have my ***** if I killed a Racoon. However, skunks are fair game after our dog got sprayed a couple years ago. What a horrific smelling animal, what was God thinking when he made these nasty creatures? He is probably still laughing about that one

Amen.

I've trapped two in the last few days in my outside chicken pen (chickens locked inside at night) along with two possums.

I have more luck with Conibear traps than 'live' traps.

I guess if the little bastards got after my wife's chickens then it would be open season.
