This by far is the best move GM has made. With Navistar they also will hopefully add a gas engine option, Navistar has a connection to that too.

I found the thread I had referenced about the weight ratings. "The Silverados are powered by a version of Chevy’s existing 6.6-liter Duramax V8 that’s been engineered to produce 350 hp and 700 pound feet of torque in this application. That’s 50 more horsepower than the F-Series trucks have and the same amount of torque, but the Silverado 6500 maxes out with a 22,500-pound gross vehicle weight rating (GVWR) while the F-650 is available in a version with a top GVWR of 29,000 pounds."

Now, keep in mind those are GVWR and not GCWR ratings. I have not found those referenced yet but I cannot foresee them being all that great either. I guess that time will tell.

The GCWR of a F-650 is 50,000 pounds. I think the back axel carrying capacity in the F-650 is 27,000 pounds. The 6500 is a lot short if the F-650 was the goal.

GCWR ratings are in the link I supplied to the GM Fleet site. Max for the new 4500/5500/6500 is listed as 30,000.

That data on the fleet site looks very preliminary and incomplete. I hope it isn’t accurate because a 30k GCWR is a joke in a truck this size. The truck itself probably weighs in excess of 10k empty. This means you couldn’t even tow a 20k trailer with their 6500.
