Not allergic to cats just couldn't eat a whole one.
Red wine gives me gout but I bravely battle on and support a local industry....

Well played sir, well played.

Why can't you eat porK? Does it make you sick, or a reaction or something?

Cat's need low and slow. Par boil them first, then finish in the broiler. ;)

Nah....much better in stir fry.

I had a co-worker that found out he was allergic to pork, all of it. He eventually stopped eating any and all pork products. Oh, and coffee too. Pork made him nauseous, and the coffee, caused problems in the nether regions, so to speak.

Just feel nauseous and very heavy in the stomach for a few hours and can't do anything, simple solution is I avoid it at all costs but get caught out sometimes when I eat it unwittingly.
I have had some strange foods in my time and even had an Arabic version of turducken, was camel stuffed with lamb stuffed with goat, wasn't too bad with the spiced meats but could be a problem to fit on the weber.
That was on an air cargo drop in Egypt where we stayed for a couple of days while getting some repairs done, the local Air Force Officers Club put it on for us.
Often wonder if I have had cat??????

As a 4 yr. old I remember being given strips of pork fat like what is on bacon to chew on raw, when we went to the local butcher one time. It was good. I love pork, especially the light meat!

I get the same with with SOME tomatoe-based sauces, like pizza sauce and BBQ sauce. Tastes great... couple hours later, not so much. It's only a couple restaurants where it happens, but it's consistent across the chain. So its something in their particular sauce, because I don't get like that at other places, or at home.

On a lettuce note, I know a guy (that's the beginning of all tall tales), that used to work for a major food prep company. They did sauces, pre-packaged veggies, etc... for many national food chains. I mentioned to him that I almost always get queasy at X restaurant, and he said they use an ingredient to keep lettuce from browning that about 20% of the population has digestive problems with. It's a known issue.

When I was young, I ate at a certain poultry restaurant and threw up within half an hour of eating there. I tried again several years later, and threw up again. Tried it two more times while dating my wife, and yep, threw up two more times. So something in that mix of seasonings just doesn't agree with me. :p

Do you know what that ingredient is/was? I have thought that to be the case but have never known for certain.

Do u have gall bladder issues? A family member had to stop eating fatty meats and ultimately had her gall bladder removed. Now she can't process the animal fats at all and feels ill, similar to your description.

I might have missed it, but is the reaction the same regardless of which cut, and how the pork is cooked? (Ie leaner cuts aren't as bad?)

I avoid fatty foods at all times mainly because I don't like them although when I BBQ a steak I keep the fat on for flavour but don't eat it, even the smallest amount of pork makes me feel ill but I can eat any other meat without any issues.
No fish for me simply because I don't like it (SWMBO says I am impossible to cook for) and as she works in the poultry industry don't eat much chicken mainly because we get it so cheap that I get sick of it.
Lamb is fine although we marinate it most of the time and use it in middle eastern type food, lots of lemon, garlic and oil based marinades.
I don't know what curing does to pork but as I said ham, bacon and salami are fine.
Very cautious when we go out for Yum Cha as you really don't know what you are getting, could well be Me Yow but you wouldn't know (Chinese for cat;))

No. And he wouldn't tell me. He said best just to avoid any restaurant that you've eaten at and gotten sick more than once. It's probably the ingredients, not the cleanliness of the place.... I have to disagree, but still, it makes sense.

I never eat pork, but I will admit every time I watch a BBQ show on TV my mouth waters at the sight of pulled pork.

We eat pork a lot. In fact, we had pork chops tonight. My dog is a bacon junkie. I think she would fight a bear over it.

Pork is a very cultural thing and in some faiths it was sensibly considered unclean as it could be infested with worm and other parasites, years of safe farming practice have pretty much eliminated a lot of this along with refrigeration to keep it fresh.
This still doesn't help me and I substitute chicken or beef for things such as pulled pork although we do ropa veja which is just a rough cut of beef that benefits from herbs and slow cooking then pulled.

Take a can of white meat chicken and throw it in a small saucepan. Add a couple/3-4-5 spoonbills of your favorite salsa. Heat it up. Put it on a flour tortilla with some cheddar/jack cheese, a little lettuce, tomato, sour cream.... chicken tacos or burritos. :licking:

Works well with BBQ sauce, too!

Or, take a large flour tortilla, put some canned chicken, some cheese, some BBQ sauce on it. Lay another tortilla on top. Put it in the microwave with some paper towels over it to hold in the moisture. 20 seconds. Pull it out and cut it like a pizza. :licking:

My Missouri friends will know what I am talking about, but many of you won’t. Pork Steaks! Have your butcher cut a Boston butt roast into about 3/4” steaks, throw them on low and slow, sauce with your favorite barbecue sauce. Known well around here, but unheard of in most parts of the country.
