So I am seriously considering these two tractors. Grand L, Cab, Hst, etc.

My delema is this, do I jump for the 60 HP for the higher PTO HP?

My needs are, snow plowing, drive way manitence, mowing (6' rotary or finish on field grass), moving 1 ton pallets of pellets, fence post auger to 12", I'm getting a backhoe for numerous trenching building landscaping tasks. I have 40 acres in dryland hay and would like to work it all myself one day. So there's a potential for drum mower, tedder, rake, and small square bailer.

The root of my question is this, is there anything the 46.5 PTO HP (L5460) wouldn't do, that the 53 PTO HP (L6060) would Do?

I'm not sure what to do. I havent priced the L6060 over the L5460 but I suspect a $2500+ difference

Thanks Charles

This is a question that get's asked quite often. I would think when running the A/C and baling hay, you might like the few extra ponies.

Don't these two tractors share the same engine, RPM, turbo, HST+ tranny, and same hydraulics? So where's the real difference?
Even if the difference is real and not advertising, I doubt that with that many HP that a few more or less will make a difference. PTOs are geared way down anyway.

OK. Over at tractordata.com I see that both tractors have the HST + transmission....that's nice, and it reminds me of a PTO difference too. Some HST+ came with a left foot manual clutch pedal for PTO use, and I see that option has been deleted on some of the newer HST+ models. Having a manual clutched PTO would make a far greater difference than a few HP. Especially with the implements that you are describing. A manually clutched PTO makes a huge difference running a bailer or fence post auger.

I can run all that with my 48hp tractor (40 PTO HP)

If you plan to run a round bailer the extra HP would prob be missed, 2x4 square bailers don’t take much HP.

Extra HP is never a bad thing except when it comes to signing on the dotted line, it’s usually a budget issue.

Don’t be surprised if it’s $1000 per HP from the smaller tractor to larger. That seemed to be the difference in the tractors I was pricing a few years ago.

Wow! I didn't realize the jump was that much money! $6500 extra would be madness if that's the cost, makes that decision easy

Went to the Kubota website, about $2000 difference. Get the L6060 and be happy.

Another  here.

That would certainly be my choice between those two if I were shopping for a Kubota L series with a HST. I wish Kubota would offer the 62 GHP engine in their L5060 GST tractor which I am opting for.

Am I making too much of the manual PTO clutch being important for running implements? What do other folks do? It sure comes in handy for me doing post holes, but from the lack of response I may be missing something. The HST+ on the M59 has a manual foot clutch which I find useful.

Well if the only difference is about 2k that's a no-brainer for me. as far as the manual PTO side of it I'm really not sure how that works with a HST. I can live with the standard PTO interface with the dial and Electric hydraulic clutch

On my smaller tractor, the manual clutch used for the PTO is one of the main reasons that I went with what I went with. By far better than the electric over hydraulic engagement IMO also.
