Texas is BIG, I can drive to every state in New England and still be home for supper

Hahaha ... my oldest stepson once posted on Facebook, "We drove for 10 hours today, and we're still in Texas."

Wife and I recently drove into TX from the LA side, going from FL to Austin. Road sign just after the border said "El Paso 849 miles". Several days earlier we had just driven from MN to Nashville through 5 states and only went slightly more than that. TX is big...

According to the county's "official" website Coos (pronounced COE-oss) county is 1800 sq. mi. with a population of just a little over 33,000. The majority of the population is in either the Berlin-Gorham area or along the Conn. river.

Here's more info than you probably care to know: Coos County NH |

My Counties population density is 10 per square mile. Yours is 18. There's probably some on here that are 5. There's also probably some on here that are 30. That wide diversity makes different types of local government more/less effective. :)

Had a friend who was the editor of a 4WD magazine and he was telling about two Japanese car manufacturer engineers who came to Australia to put a new 4WD through its paces here, they had 5 days and were based in Sydney, they finished the job in 3 days and decided that they would take the 4WD on a sightseeing tour for the next 2.
The itinerary was day one, Cape York and back for dinner, day two Ayers Rock and back in time for the evening flight to Japan.
They clearly had no concept of distance or roads back then as Cape York is an arduous 10 day drive one way with lots of river crossing, mud, big pot holes etc and Ayers Rock you could do in two days one way if you didn't stop for a break.

Was the map just deceiving or did they even look at one?

They live on an island that can be crossed in 1 to 3 hours. They were probably thinking on the same scale.

I would challenge anyone to cross Sydney in 1-3 hours, it is an absolute nightmare with one section of 6km that is unavoidable taking over an hour in peak time.
Did I mention I don't like Sydney, absolutely nothing could drag me there to live.
Melbourne (our city) has it's moments but I can get from my place to the other side of it in under 2 hours and we are 80km (50 miles) out.
We used to travel to NYC, Boston and Denver and they were relatively easy to navigate (jetlagged and tired yet we survived these 5 day trips two or three times a year).
