Can Windows 10 play CD that was for Win XP? Can Win 10 leap back?

Have some old programs used on Windows XP. Will Windows 10 leap back to play programs that Win XP handled. I have a few programs and games that I regularly use on 3
Windows XP machines. Computers getting old. I want to upgrade them, but still use old programs.

Personally, I use a MacBook Air and I love it.

Windows 7, 8 and 10 has the ability to run and play apps in backwards comparability mode. When you install it, try playing it in Windows 10, if you run into an issue you can right click on the icon and set it to Windows XP Service Pack 3 mode under the compatibility tab for that app or game.

I have a Windows 10 laptop that I use every day that won't run a number of my old school games. So I have an XP desktop in my office just for those games.

Also checkout Steam.com. It is an online gaming website that allows you to play many older titles online. Down side is you have to buy the game from Steam, but it is usually only a few bucks, and I have had a number of games work on Steam that would not load to my Windows 10 laptop.

However I am a do it yourself person, but I don't want instructions for surgery. This group is a wealth of info.

I am not your normal TBN guy..I am a Microsoft Engineer. I work for one of the largest organizations in the world support 25,000 windows servers
for this company globally and its hardware. Been Windows support for 24 years, even supported it in the military I even own and support my own Forums much like Mohammad does for this site.

That works sometimes, but not others. I found that Windows 7 was a big dividing line...a number of old programs would not run under it, even in so-called compatibility mode. I've had work-related software that ran fine on 7 but won't even install on 10. My only advice is try it and see. You might get lucky.

Win 7 Pro included a "virtual Win XP machine"...basically you can run XP as an application on 7 that helped a lot. Too bad it wasn't included in that piece of bloatware known as Win10.

Most of time when the software that ran on an older version on Windows won't run in compatibility mode, it is because of the changes to the internal system calls and the software must be recompiled with the newer system calls for it to work. Since most individuals do not have the code for the program or the software compiler program for it, it can't be recompiled.

Very interesting. Have you ever heard of an old Microsoft Guy, Richard Brodie? Knocking the cobwebs out of my brain, I'm thinking he's in retirement as a Live poker tournament player.
Plays in WSOP (World Series of Poker). I think the "story is" : He " wrote the first version of Microsoft Word". But, not sure if story is true. SO......I wondered if you have heard of
such a person?

What forms do you offer? Are they computer or electronic themes and would they benefit any of us here? As always, I'm always looking for help on things.

Yes Coffeeman, he is the author of Word and yes he plays in WSOP.

After he left Microsoft, he hit the motivational tour and wrote a couple of books.

It's difficult to say whether the old software will work on Windows 10 without trying it.

If it doesn't work, and you are committed to continuing to use the old software, you can create a virtual PC to run XP within the Windows 10 PC. There is significant overhead to initially set it up. You basically do a clean Windows XP install to create the virtual PC. If you have an XP install disk, the virtual PC software is free.
