it's one of the reasons I have longed for property with acreage outside the city limit...

Also one of the reasons I like the part of rural Washington where I bought a home... what happens at my neighbors place does't bother me if it stays there...

One of the old guys has several tractors... some might call it farm art and I think it adds character.

Nothing wrong with people that want strict compliance and I imagine that is why we have HOA and bless them if it is their choice.

My neighbor in Oakland is a building contractor... he had his company name on his pick up... it became a problem for him as the truck wouldn't fit in the garage so he had to take off the company name... the only person that could possibly see it is me and it didn't bother me in the least... just like my Deere 110 Backhoe didn't bother him...

My biggest problem is managing rental property... as the owner or manager I get the violation notices and have spent a lot of time dealing with it... one of my tenants was in the reserves and deployed to Desert Storm... his car was parked in the driveway... a nice car with a layer of dust the tire were getting soft... licensed and insured... the city really wasted a lot of time... I had to got to the city council with pictures and explain the owner was deployed... enough rallied so that it was deemed OK as long as the tags were current and car was washed and tires kept up...

Had I not been involved it would have been towed and lost for the tow fees and impound.

The issue is a car that is not used/licensed/insured/operable is a nuisance and storing vehicles is prohibited unless in a garage.

West memphis has a whole lot more problems than people working on their vehicles....

There has to be a balance and people should use common sense. I don’t like everything the neighbors do but they may not like everything I do. If it goes too far though.

Bad facts make bad law.

If I got that notice I would put my house up for sale and start looking for another house. I have two unregistered trucks out on the property now, and quite a few others that are registered, they all run and are in good shape.

Luckily I live in an area that I don’t deal with junky houses, crappy neighbors etc, I live in a blue collar area, most on my street are either in a trade with a service vehicle I’m the driveway or retired and elderly. Just about everyone around here takes care of their property.

What about trailers? I always keep my 16ft trailer attached to my old flatbed dually, in my driveway. Sure it’s not the most attractive set up but under this law I’m sure it wouldn’t fly.

I'm on the fence with these types of rules. I hate government overreach and commie HOA's, but at the same time I often marvel at the ability of some people to pile old engine blocks, forgotten dreams of automotive restorations, and cars perpetually up on jack stands in their front yards.

Personally, and not to be argumentative, l think your last three words are the most important.

"...their front yards..."

Aside from a landlord issue, why is it a nuisance?

To often these vehicles double as dumpsters. As a landlord I once had to force a tenant to remove an old Olds Toranado <sic> that they had stuffed full of garbage bags full of who knows what. Same thing a few years back with a neighbor and an old Cadillac (why do they go for the luxury models? ;)) when I lived in town. Two or three (one may have very recently been removed) Ford window vans fill a driveway on my route to work. They are filled to the top with trash.

In the 1st two instances I know for a fact the vehicles were a breeding ground for vermin. That is s a public nuisance regardless of who's property it is on.

In reality, MOST old parked cars and trucks will never run again and will not be used for parts. So, why not just get rid of them sooner rather than later? If they were really worth anything (beyond scrap) they probably would have been sold.
