...And this differs from large cities in other parts of the country how???
Other large cities (except for maybe bean town)...don't make a big deal and media show about how "together" they are when a disaster happens...They act like they expect the rest of the nation stop what they're doing and notice how important they think they are...

Not making light of the 911 terrorist attack in any way...But something that always "ticked me off"...was the way so many of the ny'ers refused to wear dust masks during the clean up...but later came whining and screaming for compensation for symptoms supposedly caused by harmful dust that they had been warned about prior to being exposed...

Ok, you羆*e forgiven. :).

And I do agree that Cuomo HAS GOT TO GO.....unfortunately, the alternatives offered so far for the upcoming elections look more like sacrificial lambs than candidates for Governor.

Well, all of you non-NY'ers are welcome, because so far his presidential ambitions have been side-tracked by his gubernatorial struggles.

Please don't take this the wrong way, but the way I saw it, NYC controls Albany, and thus the state.

It is however nice to know people in that area feel the same way about NYC:thumbsup:

That was going to be my response too- plus, whether or not Albany is controlled by NYC, it is undeniably a swamp- that I doubt will/can ever be drained of the bottom-feeders and scum.

SNIP Eastern Maine is referred to as "downeast" which always sounded odd to me.

It's a nautical term dating back to when ships were the main source of transportation and commerce. I'm not a sailor so might not be the best to explain; but the prevailing winds blow up the coast from the south, so if you were riding the wind you were headed down.

I live ten minutes south of Utica and we call it central NY which it is. Normally when traveling I refer to it as just north of Pennsylvania! It takes the confusion out of it! I used to be proud to say ny years ago but the cuomo family taxed that out of me!
Art, you're more like 20 min south ;) -Ryan

Looks like my part of the country, the Blue Ridge Mountains.

Both my sister and I have migrated from the Hudson Valley to the NC foothills. She says we are looking at the same mountains, just the other end of the range. She’s quite right.

Lived in on the outskirts of Watertown and Syracuse.

How in the %&#! is Binghamton considered "upstate" NY?

2nd-binghamton-university-student-murdered-5-week-span-084304621--abc-news-topstories.html

Here I thought only the scrubheads in NYC couldn't figure out where "upstate NY" was!

I mean this county borders Pa on the fricken SOUTH SIDE of the state!

Is like every part of NY "upstate" other than NYC???

The "give a way" is if the speaker does not pronounce Binghamton correctly.

Anyway, I never lived there but I have a good many miles under my belt all over the state including the least as well as the more populated areas. I don't necessarily agree with the four seasons. Sometimes it seemed like just three, summer, winter and "bug" seasons. It is a big state with much to offer. I used to come out of Ontario down to Syracuse and head west, turn around, go back to Ontario then back down to Rome/Utica and head east. Man that got old back in the 55mph days with a rig goverened at 62.

OK, I get upstate, midlands and low country, but Pee Dee??:confused3: Must be an interesting story there.

I remember seeing that once before and wondering the same thing, so I looked it up on this here inturwebs thingie.

Pee Dee - Wikipedia

The Yadkin River in NC becomes the Pee Dee River just before it enters SC. My farm in NC is classified as being in the Yadkin/Pee Dee Basin.

The Catawba River in NC becomes the Wateree River when it enters SC.:confused3:
