I think the days are coming where there will no longer be keys for a new vehicle. Just a fob to get in the doors and you push a button to start the car. The fob tells the vehicle it is OK to start. Some cars have it now.

That's the way my new BMW motorcycle works. No keys - just a fob/transmitter. Get within range(around ten feet) and the dashboard display will display and vocalize " Good morning Oosik - its 11:27am - Saturday, April, 21, 2018 - its a sunny 57 degrees right now. Have a great ride, Oosik". Kind of startles anybody who hasn't been around the bike before.

That's the way our 2017 Ford Escape works. Of course, the driver's door does have a key slot that I had never used until just now.:laughing: You see, the fob actually contains a key, but if you didn't know it, you might have a hard time finding it. And there's a combination pad in the driver's door also, so you can unlock the car without the fob. Now if there's a way to start the engine without one of the fobs nearby, I wouldn't know it.

I had a 'push to start' when I was young and most of the time my parents or my girlfriend's parents caught me. Never was very sneaky or stealthy.
