Engine RPM problem on my BX24

After changing the filter 2 times I installed a valve ahead of the first filter. I also moved the engine compartment filter to underneath next to the first one (easy job).

The under hood filter is to protect the injector pump in case the electric lift pump takes a dump, the under floor filter protects the electric lift pump, so one pump before electric pump and one after.

If the filter change doesn’t work try loosening the fuel filler cap. Sometimes they get plugged up .

It is still in the outlet side of he booster pump. I found the black gunk in that one also, so always change both at the same time. Buy the non OEM metal ones at NAPA. They almost give them away after my discount.

Good idea, easier to change both with them close together, really like the idea of the fuel cutoff, handier than clamping the hose.

I have this happen to my BX25 from time to time and it is caused by the lower fuel filter. I think what happens is that under a light load for a short time the fuel can flow properly but going hard with it for an extended amount of time draws the water and sediment to the filter paper and blocks it starving the tractor of the fuel. Letting the filter settle a while might allow the stuff in the filter to settle down and disperse or something. The lower filter is in a good position to trap water and sediment since it is at the lowest level of the fuel line. That's my theory of why it can come and go. I think the higher flow for an extended amount of time gets the filter riled up more than casual joy riding does, but then again anytime I am using my Kubota tractor it is a joy ride.

Forgot to mention; the valve makes a good anti-theft device. Turn off, run till dies. Thieve will not figure out how to start as the valve is way back there, almost invisible, especially at night. I do that every time I let it set overnight at my church.

Several years ago, I helped a friend in eastern Washington get his small Boomer tractor running. It had sat outside for over a year while he was getting cancer treatments. I had new filters to install. His had a sight glass in the fuel line, and I could see without removing it that it was full of junk.

Opening it up, it had a moss like substance in it, plus water. Drained all the old fuel out, replaced the filters, cleaned the sediment bulb, and bled the injectors. Took awhile to get it going, but we did.

I'm having a weird problem with my BX24. After I have been using it for about 45 minutes at a continuous high RPM while brush hogging a field the RPM's will suddenly drop off. It doesn't die it just drops RPM's to about 2000. When it happens I turn off the PTO and bring the RPM's down to idle with the throttle and let it idle for a minute or so and then bring it back up to high RPM's and go back to mowing. I can't imagine what would cause the RPM's to drop, anyone with an idea?

I had the same problem this winter. What cured it was having my wife hold a rag over the filler opening with the cap off while I blew compressed air up the tube towards the tank. Watkins Tractor service manager suggested this. The fuel came gushing out. He also suggested I pump out the tank through the fill opening when the tank is low on diesel and discard the fuel. I haven’t figured out how to do this yet. I also started using SeaFoam in each tank of fuel. The BX24 is running great now. 460 hours.
Good luck.

Altoona PR.. google "the suck bucket" to drain your fuel.. IT WORKS!!!

mind you the first filter is in front of the fuel pump to protect it from grime in the fuel tank... the pump could also be the reason it flowed slower by the filter proximal to the engine
