Saw this today. Popped the pic while stopped at a light.

Followed him about a mile. He almost lost it twice when hitting bumps.

I agree that normally it should be enough to expect people to be reasonable and sensible, but it is also true that sometimes people with good intentions just don't get it. Some people don't understand why a pair of safety chains that have been dragging down the road and are worn 3/4 of the way through are not going to be strong enough any more. A 16 YO kid who just got his license may think it is fine for him to do 80 in 35 zone because he has "fast reflexes". And for the most part people are self-absorbed and will get away with what they can, while justifying it to themselves as "good enough". If there are no regulations to say what you are required to do, they will simply set a level that suits their convenience. They think it won't happen to them.

- I didn't know.
- I thought it would be ok.

Since I left Military, in 1971, I’ve never been run into by anyone one that had insurance. Probably 8-10 incidents.

One lady rear ended me, when I was already stopped at at Red light, behind other cars. She told police that I had slammed on my brakes to “cause her to hit me”. She was ticketed and never showed up for court. No insurance, no driver’s license. Guess her status?

It never ceases to amaze me, the number of people without drivers licenses or insurance. Why do the good guys bother? Where has the conscience gone? What happened to truth and morality? People flat out lie with impunity. Very disturbing and sad.

I think that the majority of people are still good. I also remember my grandfather, aunts and uncles saying the same things about people, 50 years ago. Although I don't believe we would have the dedication to win WWII now, and help rebuild the world afterwards.

You really have to take responsibility for your own protection. Buy Uninsured
Motorist coverage and Personal Injury Protection coverage on your auto policy in Texas.

You have to expect the other driver will be uninsured. That’s just the way it is.

Even good people can’t always afford the insurance coverage they should have. And, even good people make instakes.

In Texas several years ago the state decided to ‘crack down’ on drivers caught without insurance and who were scofflaw about paying fines, too many tickets, etc. Started charging for ‘points’ on driving records.

So many people just flat out can’t pay the surcharges so they can’t get insurance, license gets suspended, try to drive to work without license, finally get caught, locked up, loose job. Vicious cycle.
