For years i used swale to divert water at top of driveway. Drive ditched with cross pipes as descending . at top of hill I have a 3 way intersection. 2 lanes going shallow gas wells. Both periodically have trucks removing water. As time goes by the swale gets defeated. Thus, 3 roads get water in heavy rain and can destroy drive down the hill. works fine if water diverted.

I'm thinking of putting a metal grate across top of drive. Like a square pipe with water drainage grate on top of drive. Is there such an animal? Any ideas for something different.

I'm in the same situation and wondered of something similar. It never just rains here anymore. It's always a downpour. I actually thought of casting something in concrete diagonally with a grate for traffic.

Yes, they're called strip drains. You might also consider something bigger, like a cattle guard, that could withstand truck traffic.

Strip drain sounds good. Cattle guard sounds better. how do the 2 differ? I guess latter is heavy duty. Otherwise same??

Thanks for for info..

How about laying a 8" channel (H beam) across the road to divert water to the suitable side?
Most tires could easily 'bump' across the 8" gap. (or alternatively perhaps a 6" H beam.

I have similar problems, I resorted to re cycled asphalt as that 'sticks' together and does not wash out.

Buddy with similar situation uses hemlock 2 X 8"s to form a trough to divert his water.
He nails or screws than together to form a glorified 'U' that diverts his water.

How heavy are the trucks. Heavy truck require more design
Trench drains will tend to clog with gravel and debris
Around here many commercial properties have trench drains at end of driveway.
Could you put culvert in area of swale

My property is farm property. Truck comes about every month or so. Depends on how much water gas well produces. Truck is Tri-Axle, guessing 1000 gal tank. My wells don't produce much water. I should be able to get gas company to maintain my driveway thats shared by gas guys and my home. I learned back in 2006 that "according to the lease" it's on me after wells producing. I do get house gas hook up to one well. I save far more $$ with Gas for my home than royalties pay. Gas for "household use"only. So i can't get a fleet of natural gas vehicles. It goes without saying but, ALWAYS READ YOUR LEASE!

Good point about drains clogging. Essentially swale clogs or washes out in big storms. Just gotta figure something out, it's a pain. Thanks for info.

You need a broad based dip or you could try the 2 4x4's with a piece of conveyor belting sticking up 8" above the road surface to create a driveable water diversion. The broad based deep is often confused with a speed bump. The dip actually needs to be 50' long or better to work effectively. Those trucks can push 72,380lbs and are generally around 100bbl not 1000 gal. Anything you put in there better be HD and able to take the loading. Both of my suggestions are water control devices we used on SOG well roads with much success.
